The Inbetweeners is officially getting a third movie. Netflix confirmed on September 7 that production on The Inbetweeners 3 has begun in the UK, with Simon Bird, James Buckley, Blake Harrison and Joe Thomas all reprising their original roles and creators Damon Beesley and Iain Morris returning to write and direct.

All Four Leads Are Back

Netflix’s announcement names all four original leads returning to the roles that made the show: Simon Bird as Will McKenzie, James Buckley as Jay Cartwright, Blake Harrison as Neil Sutherland, and Joe Thomas as Simon Cooper. That’s the full original central cast, not a partial reunion built around one or two returning names.

Beesley and Morris returning matters beyond nostalgia value — they created the original 2008 series and wrote both films that followed, so this isn’t Netflix acquiring dormant IP and handing it to an unconnected team. The same two people responsible for the original voice are writing and directing this one too.

What the Announcement Video Shows

Netflix’s own announcement clip is short and mostly visual: a garage door opens, four pairs of feet approach the yellow Fiat Cinquecento long associated with the show, and Simon mutters “Ah, for f***’s sake” when it won’t start. He gets the engine going and drives it out with a “3” drawn into the dust on the rear windscreen — the same window that, in the released key art, still carries the car’s crude original bumper sticker. It confirms the four are back together and that a third film exists; it doesn’t show or say anything about story.

How This Actually Came Together

This didn’t happen out of nowhere, but it also wasn’t locked in as early as some coverage suggested. Banijay UK and Fudge Park Productions — the company Morris and Beesley founded — struck a rights deal back in October 2025 that Banijay described as “paving the way” for The Inbetweeners’ return across “film, tv and stage.” No specific project, cast or platform was confirmed at that point. By August 2, 2026, trade reports said a movie reunion was moving forward at Netflix with the original cast “understood to be attached,” but with deals still not finalized. September 7 is where that uncertainty ends: Netflix’s own announcement confirms the film, the platform, the full cast and a start date all at once.

Not a New Season — a Third Film

The original sitcom ran on E4 for three series between 2008 and 2010. It was followed by two theatrical films: The Inbetweeners Movie in 2011, which opened at No. 1 and set a UK record for a comedy’s biggest opening weekend, and The Inbetweeners 2 in 2014, which also broke box office records. Between them, the two films grossed close to £80 million. The Inbetweeners 3 continues that film lineage rather than functioning as a fourth TV season.

What’s Still Unknown

Netflix has not revealed a release date, a plot, a runtime, or any supporting cast beyond the four leads. Whether the film gets any theatrical release alongside Netflix or streams exclusively hasn’t been addressed either.
