Attack on Titan Day 2026: The Biggest of the 99 Announcements
Attack on Titan Day brought 99 franchise announcements, but no new anime season. Here are the updates that actually matter, from new Isayama art to theatrical returns and Attack on Titan 3.

Attack on Titan just dropped 99 pieces of news for its first officially recognized Attack on Titan Day, but fans hoping for a new anime sequel should temper expectations — there isn’t one. The campaign is largely a celebration of the existing franchise, with the genuinely concrete developments limited to new Hajime Isayama artwork, a new official YouTube channel, premium-format theatrical returns for two existing films, and new MAPPA material for the Attack on Titan 3 game.

Why September 9
Japan’s Anniversary Association has certified September 9 as Attack on Titan Day, marking the date Hajime Isayama’s manga began serialization in Bessatsu Shonen Magazine back in 2009. The number 9 runs through the whole campaign deliberately — nine Titans, 99 announcements, the first 99 manga chapters, 99 hours of free access — more branding flourish than new lore.
Two Separate Pieces of New Art
Don’t mix these up: the main Attack on Titan Day key visual is a commemorative design built around the Nine Titans motif and a bloodied Titan close-up, officially credited to the franchise rather than to Isayama personally. Separately, Isayama himself drew a new celebratory illustration depicting Eren, Levi and Erwin in formal attire, created for anniversary merchandise. Neither is concept art for new material — both are anniversary pieces, not story continuations.
A New Official YouTube Channel
Arguably the most durable item in the whole campaign: Attack on Titan now has an official YouTube channel, launched alongside an anniversary livestream. The channel is billed as a home for limited-time anime streams and exclusive video content going forward. What isn’t confirmed is a permanent free library of full episodes, expanded rights in every territory, or any new anime production tied to the channel’s existence — it’s a new venue, not a new project.
Two Films Return to Theaters — Neither Is New
Attack on Titan Part 1 -Guren no Yumiya-, the franchise’s earlier compilation film, returns to Japanese theaters October 23, 2026 in ScreenX, 4DX and ULTRA 4DX. THE LAST ATTACK gets the same premium treatment in 2027, marking that film’s own first ScreenX release — not the franchise’s first ScreenX presentation overall, since Guren no Yumiya already has that format next month. Both are existing films getting new theatrical formats, not new movies.
Attack on Titan 3: Old Release Date, New Visual
Koei Tecmo locked in Attack on Titan 3’s December 10, 2026 release back in August, across PC, PS5, Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series X|S, developed by Omega Force. That date isn’t new today. What’s new is a key visual for the game’s opening animation, which MAPPA is producing — MAPPA’s involvement itself was already known; the newly revealed piece is the visual representing that work.
The Free Manga Window
Kodansha’s Magapoke app is making the original manga’s first 99 chapters free to read for 99 hours, starting September 9 at 00:00 JST and running through September 13 at 2:59 AM JST. That’s chapters, not anime episodes, despite some confused wording floating around online. Access runs through Magapoke specifically, so readers outside Japan should check the app’s own availability before assuming this applies to them.
What the Other ~90 Announcements Actually Are
The bulk of the campaign is merchandise drops, brand collaborations (including Sanrio Characters, Team Liquid, MSI, and ROUND1), exhibitions, figures, and regional launches across multiple countries. That’s a real signal of how commercially active the franchise remains 17 years after it started — it just isn’t 90 additional anime or game projects.
