Castlevania's 40th Anniversary Brings a Free Mobile Game and Collection Sales

Castlevania turns 40 on September 26, 2026, and Konami is marking the anniversary with a free mobile release, a limited download window, game discounts and music plans. The mobile game is available now on iOS and Android. Konami says the offer runs through October 24, and that players who download it during the window can keep playing afterward. Store availability and the exact end time may vary by region, so check your local listing before waiting until the last day.

Which Castlevania game is free?

This release is based on the 1993 Famicom cartridge version of the original Castlevania. That distinction matters: the series debuted on Japan’s Famicom Disk System in 1986, but the mobile anniversary edition is based on a later cartridge release. It is a standalone mobile game, not an announcement that the entire series is free.

What else did Konami announce?

Konami is running discounts of up to 80% on selected Castlevania games and collections. The stated sale windows differ by store: Nintendo’s runs September 25–October 7, PlayStation’s September 23–October 7, and Steam’s September 25–October 9. These dates come from Konami’s Japanese announcement; prices, participating titles and the time a sale ends should be checked in your regional storefront.

On the music side, Konami says Music from Castlevania Black & Red begins streaming September 26. Vinyl releases for Castlevania and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night are also planned. An anniversary concert is planned for spring 2027 in Tokyo, London and Los Angeles; venue and ticket details have not been announced in the anniversary notice.
