The New Season, According to Paramount

Paramount’s official synopsis: Season 2 finds Dexter caught between two killers — one with decades of notoriety and a lifetime of kills behind him, and a younger, newer face terrorizing New York in ways no one has seen. Showrunner Clyde Phillips has also described Dexter working through a midlife crisis of his own this season, alongside Harrison’s continued pursuit of justice as part of the show’s father-son thread.

Phillips told Entertainment Weekly the season picks up roughly three years after Season 1, aging Harrison (Jack Alcott) to 21 and old enough to join the NYPD — a jump Phillips has framed as a deliberate way to put father and son on more equal, and more complicated, footing.

Who’s Playing the Two Killers

Brian Cox joins as a series regular playing the semi-retired New York Ripper, a killer whose reputation precedes him. Dan Stevens also joins as a series regular playing the Five Borough Killer, a newer threat working across New York’s boroughs. Paramount hasn’t detailed how directly these two figures intersect with Dexter’s own methods, so treat their exact roles in the season as unconfirmed beyond those introductions.
