Disney’s 2026 live-action Moana arrives on Disney+ on October 21, 2026, according to the service’s updated US-facing film page. A separate announcement from Disney Portugal confirms the same date there, under the local title Vaiana. The film stars Catherine Lagaʻaia as Moana and Dwayne Johnson as Maui.

This is the live-action reimagining released in US theaters on July 10, 2026. It is a separate film from the original animated Moana and the animated sequel Moana 2, an important distinction when searching the Disney+ catalog.

Where is October 21 confirmed?

Explore Disney+ updated its Moana feature on October 13, adding the October 21 arrival announcement. The US-facing title page also displays October 21, 2026. Its US subscription presentation and regional availability notice should not be read as a promise that every Disney+ territory follows that date.

The Portuguese announcement is specific evidence for Portugal. It should not be generalized to all of Europe. Neither cited announcement supplies an exact release hour, so there is no confirmed midnight, Pacific Time or worldwide UTC unlock to list.

Which Moana film should you look for?

Look for Moana (2026), or Vaiana (2026) in the Portuguese announcement, and the live-action artwork featuring Lagaʻaia and Johnson. The Disney+ title page identifies it as a live-action reimagining and groups it under action and adventure, musicals and fantasy.

The story follows Moana beyond the reef of Motunui with Maui as she seeks to restore prosperity to her people. Disney Portugal highlights returning songs including “How Far I’ll Go” and “I Am Moana”, alongside the new “Along the Way.”

Thomas Kail directs. Auliʻi Cravalho, who voiced Moana in the animated films, serves as an executive producer on the live-action version; Lagaʻaia plays Moana on screen here. That distinction helps separate the new cast from the earlier films without suggesting that this is an animated sequel.
