Avatar Legends 4.0 Reworks Aang and Korra — and Changes Ranked Matches
The Avatar State patch adds first-to-three ranked sets, two stages and major fighter changes. Here's what returning Avatar Legends players need to know.

Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game’s 4.0 update changes the rhythm of ranked play as well as the fighters themselves. The Avatar State patch introduces first-to-three ranked sets, rebuilds Avatar State Aang and Nightmare Korra, and adds Avatar Road and Air Temple Island as playable stages.
For returning players, the useful question is where to spend those first few matches. A familiar character can now demand different routes, while a ranked result depends on completing a whole set rather than a single game.
Paramount’s official 4.0 notes are marked updated October 28, 2026. Gameplay Group International’s October 30 Xbox Wire announcement confirms the update is available on Xbox. Those dates describe the notes and announcement; they should not be read as proof that every platform received the same build simultaneously.
What changes in the Avatar State patch?
| Change | Why it matters when you return |
|---|---|
| Avatar State Aang and Nightmare Korra overhauls | Old habits may need rebuilding around their revised moves and supers. |
| First-to-three ranked sets | You have more chances to adapt to an opponent before the result is settled. |
| Avatar Road and Air Temple Island | Two more playable stages join the selection. |
| Roster-wide balance changes | The update reaches beyond the two headline fighters. |
| Revised HUD and menus | Combat information and navigation have a different presentation. |
The developer also highlights an expanded single-player offering, including Story Mode+, tutorials and combo trials. That gives players a way to reacquaint themselves with the systems before going straight into ranked.
Aang and Korra get more than numerical tweaks
Avatar State Aang and Nightmare Korra are the centerpiece of the update. Their reworks include new moves, supers and accompanying artwork, rather than only adjustments to damage values.
That makes the character-specific notes worth checking even if you already know the launch roster. A useful first step is to try the revised move list and combo trials with your main, then check which familiar sequences still connect. The announcement alone does not establish a new competitive tier list.

How do the new ranked sets work?
Ranked now uses first-to-three sets, with points awarded when the set is completed. The official notes also specify that the winner cannot lose ranked points and describe penalties for leaving a set.
The practical consequence is to budget time for the full encounter. Losing the opening game is no longer the final result: the format leaves room to recognize an opponent’s approach and adjust before the set ends.
Before queuing, confirm your installed version and read the notes for the fighter you use. The full patch notes remain the reference for individual move changes; a headline summary cannot replace the detailed entries.
This is the standalone fighting game. Readers following the animated franchise can find the separate television story in our Avatar: Seven Havens coverage.
