Black Bullet Returns After 12 Years With New World Order — Here's What Is Actually New

Black Bullet is officially returning to publication after a 12-year gap. Dengeki Bunko has announced Black Bullet: New World Order (新世界秩序), a light-novel reboot beginning with two volumes in November 2026 and continuing monthly through February 2027. It’s a light-novel publishing development — no new anime season has been announced.

Is Black Bullet Really Coming Back?

Yes. Dengeki Bunko’s own announcement describes New World Order as a リブート — a reboot — that restarts the series “with a new look,” built on original author Shiden Kanzaki revising and adding to his existing text rather than starting from a blank page. That distinction matters for what follows, because “reboot” here doesn’t mean every volume is brand new.

What New World Order Actually Is

The original Black Bullet light novels ran seven volumes starting in 2011, with the story going dormant for over a decade before this announcement — long enough that the 2014 anime adaptation, produced by Kinema Citrus, has remained most casual fans’ only point of reference. New World Order isn’t a from-scratch continuation of that story and isn’t a plain reissue either. According to the announcement, Kanzaki has gone back into the original text and revised it, and the early volumes track the same story beats as the original novels rather than skipping ahead.

The Release Plan, Month by Month

Eight books arrive across four months, with two releasing simultaneously in the opening month:

Where the Genuinely New Material Begins

This is the part worth getting precise about, because “reboot” undersells how the plan actually breaks down. Volumes 01 through 03 follow the same story development as the original novels — this is the revised, added-to material Kanzaki has been working on. Starting with Volume 04, the story reaches a branch point and begins diverging from what longtime readers already know. By Volume 05, Dengeki describes the material as entirely new. So the honest way to describe New World Order is a hybrid: the first three volumes are a revised edition of Black Bullet’s existing story, and new, previously unpublished Black Bullet material starts partway through Volume 04 and is fully underway by Volume 05.

Is Black Bullet Season 2 Announced?

No. As of this announcement, nothing here concerns a new anime production. There’s no studio, no streaming platform, no episode count, and no air date tied to New World Order — because there’s no new anime announcement to attach one to. Don’t read the light-novel reboot as a sign an adaptation is in motion; Dengeki has only talked about the books.

What is happening on the anime side is unrelated to a new season: the original 2014 Black Bullet anime, all 12 episodes, is getting a rebroadcast on ABEMA’s Anime SPECIAL channel on October 3, 2026, running 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Japan time, with free viewing for two weeks afterward. That’s a marathon airing of the existing show timed to the announcement, not new footage or a new production.

The Yuki Kaji and Rina Hidaka Video

Alongside the announcement, Dengeki released what’s described as a 特報映像 — a special teaser video — featuring Yuki Kaji and Rina Hidaka, who reprise their original 2014 anime roles as Rentaro Satomi and Enju Aihara respectively. It’s being used to promote the light-novel relaunch, not to preview new anime footage. Their presence confirms these two are attached to the New World Order promotional campaign in their established roles — it doesn’t confirm anything about a future adaptation.

Author and Illustrator

Both creative leads are unchanged. Shiden Kanzaki remains the author, credited with the text revisions and additions driving the early volumes and with authoring the new material starting around Volume 04. Saki Ukai remains the illustrator, providing newly drawn cover art for the full eight-book run rather than reusing the original series’ covers.

What We Still Don’t Know

Dengeki hasn’t detailed plot specifics for the new material beginning at Volume 04, hasn’t given English titles for any of the eight books, and hasn’t said whether the reboot is intended to set up further volumes beyond Volume 05 or a future anime revisit. Treat all of that as open until Dengeki says otherwise.
