Gal Gadot Says She Hasn't Discussed a Wonder Woman Return With DC Studios

Gal Gadot says she hasn’t had any specific conversations with James Gunn, Peter Safran or DC Studios about returning as Wonder Woman. Talking to ScreenRant while promoting her new Prime Video thriller The Runner, Gadot was asked directly about her future with the character, and her answer was plain: nothing has been discussed, not for Diana Prince and not for any other role in the rebuilt DC Universe. That’s a shift from a few years ago, when her status was genuinely unresolved rather than settled either way.

What she actually said

Gadot told ScreenRant the last real update came when DC Studios representatives “came to the studio, and they really wanted to develop the third one.” Since then, she said, she hasn’t “heard anything.” Asked about the actress who eventually inherits the role, she said: “This is such an incredible character that so many of us care about so much, so whoever it’s going to be to portray her, I wish for her that she enjoys this amazing ride with this amazing character.”

That’s a warm exit line, not a retirement notice. Gadot didn’t say she turned down an offer, and she didn’t say DC Studios has moved on from her by name — she said there’s been no conversation at all, which is its own kind of answer.

How Wonder Woman 3 actually fell apart

The popular shorthand — “Gunn cancelled Wonder Woman 3” — skips over a messier timeline. Patty Jenkins had a script and a deal for a third film before Warner Bros. Discovery restructured DC under Gunn and Safran in late 2022, and Jenkins’ pitch reportedly didn’t fit the new regime’s plans. Gadot said in 2023 that Gunn and Safran had told her they wanted to move forward with a third film, but Variety later reported that nothing had actually been promised. The project never happened, and Gadot’s most recent appearances as Diana were cameos in Shazam! Fury of the Gods and The Flash, both from 2023. She hasn’t led a Wonder Woman film since Wonder Woman 1984 in 2020.

Where DC Studios’ Wonder Woman actually stands

DC Studios does have a new Wonder Woman movie in the works. Variety and Deadline both reported in mid-2025 that Supergirl screenwriter Ana Nogueira was brought on to write the script, and Gunn has confirmed one is being developed. No director, cast or release date has been announced — which is the real contrast here. DC Studios is actively building toward a new Wonder Woman film, and Gadot says nobody from the studio has talked to her about being part of it.

Adria Arjona’s name has circulated in fan speculation linking her to Diana Prince, but that gets the facts wrong. Arjona has been cast in Superman: Man of Tomorrow as Maxima, not Wonder Woman, according to both Variety and Deadline. DC Studios hasn’t named anyone as the next Diana Prince, and hasn’t said where a new Wonder Woman film fits into its current DCU plans, either.

Where this leaves things

Gadot hasn’t said her run as Wonder Woman is officially finished, and no one at DC Studios has said it for her. What’s changed is the language. Three years ago, she was describing active talks about a third movie. Now she’s describing radio silence and wishing her successor well. DC still hasn’t said who that successor is.
