Ghost of Yōtei: Most Wanted is Sucker Punch’s take on a roguelike — a single-player combat-survival mode arriving in the Ghost of Yōtei Complete Edition on October 1, 2026, with the update rolling out a day later, October 2, in Asia, Australia and New Zealand. The trailer’s headline reveal is that Jin Sakai, protagonist of Ghost of Tsushima, is now a playable character alongside Atsu, Oyuki and Nagato — not as part of Atsu’s own story, but as one of four samurai you can take into Most Wanted’s bounty runs.

What Most Wanted Actually Is

SHOWN IN TRAILER: Footage cuts between all four characters fighting through enemy camps, Jin’s reveal walking into frame in his Ghost of Tsushima armor, and a bounty-board UI listing targets tied to the Yōtei Six.

CONFIRMED BY SUCKER PUNCH: Most Wanted is described directly as “a brand new single-player combat survival mode” and Sucker Punch’s own spin on a roguelike, included with Ghost of Yōtei Complete Edition. It’s a separate addition from the narrative expansion Echoes of Sekigahara — the two ship together in the Complete Edition, but they are not the same mode, and finishing one has no bearing on the other.

How Bounties and Runs Work

CONFIRMED BY SUCKER PUNCH: Each run starts with a bounty board tied to members of the Yōtei Six. Players choose one of the four characters and take on a bounty, fighting through waves of enemies and minibosses before reaching that bounty’s boss. Difficulty escalates as players work through harder bounties, building toward the hardest one in the mode: a direct fight against Lord Saito. Clearing bounties earns Mon, a currency spent between runs — not during them — to unlock new techniques, weapon upgrades, charms and character unlocks.

INTERPRETATION: That structure — waves and minibosses gating a boss encounter, currency spent between attempts rather than mid-run — is the classic roguelike loop, adapted to Yōtei’s bounty-hunting framing rather than a procedurally generated dungeon.

STILL UNKNOWN: Sucker Punch hasn’t detailed exactly how many bounties exist per character, whether run layouts are randomized or fixed, or what specifically unlocks Jin as a playable character beyond confirming that character unlocks exist.

Jin Sakai’s Return, Explained

CONFIRMED BY SUCKER PUNCH: Jin fights with his katana and retains all four combat stances from Ghost of Tsushima, used to exploit specific enemy weaknesses the way they did in his original game. He carries a Sticky Bomb and a hankyu (short bow) as his tools. His Ultimate is Dance of Wrath, which disarms multiple enemies at once, and his Kill Streak is Ghost Stance, which terrifies surrounding enemies and lets him kill a limited number of them in a single hit.

It’s worth being precise about what this reveal actually is. Jin’s confirmed role is as a playable character inside Most Wanted, a separate combat-survival mode — nothing here places him inside Atsu’s own story or canonical timeline in Ghost of Yōtei. Sucker Punch is bringing back the character and his moveset for this mode specifically, not folding Ghost of Tsushima’s protagonist into Ghost of Yōtei’s main narrative.

Atsu, Oyuki and Nagato’s Playstyles

CONFIRMED BY SUCKER PUNCH:

  • Atsu is the default character, fighting with dual katana and two Ghost Tools, Metsubushi and Blind Bomb.
  • Oyuki uses the kusarigama, kunai and tanegashima (an early firearm), leaning into a stealth-assassin kit.
  • Nagato carries the yari (spear), tanzutsu (pistol), yumi (bow) and hankyu (short bow), the most weapon-varied loadout of the four.

Each character’s kit is distinct enough that switching between them changes how a bounty run actually plays, rather than just reskinning the same moveset.

Ultimates and Kill Streaks

CONFIRMED BY SUCKER PUNCH: Every character has a signature Ultimate and Kill Streak:

  • Atsu: Call of the Pack (Ultimate) summons two wolves to attack nearby enemies; Onryō’s Howl (Kill Streak) terrifies enemies and forces one to flee.
  • Oyuki: Shadow Killer (Ultimate) uses smoke cover to pull off a dual assassination; Shadow Shinobi (Kill Streak) summons a Nine Tails ally.
  • Nagato: Gambler’s Mark (Ultimate) guarantees a dual headshot; Blast Arrow (Kill Streak) refills Concentration and grants an explosive arrow.
  • Jin: Dance of Wrath (Ultimate) disarms multiple enemies; Ghost Stance (Kill Streak) terrifies enemies and allows a limited multi-kill.

INTERPRETATION: The pattern across all four kits pairs a crowd-control or burst-damage Ultimate with a Kill Streak that rewards aggressive, high-kill play — consistent with a mode built around clearing waves rather than the slower, stealth-first pacing of Yōtei’s open world.

How Perks and Permanent Progression Work

CONFIRMED BY SUCKER PUNCH: Perks earned during runs span categories including weapon mastery, gear loadouts, summons, parries and survivability. Mon earned during runs is spent outside of them on permanent unlocks — new techniques, weapon upgrades, charms and character unlocks — meaning progress carries forward even after a run ends, rather than resetting entirely between attempts.

STILL UNKNOWN: Sucker Punch hasn’t published a full perk list, how perk choices are offered during a run, or how deep the permanent upgrade trees go.

What Carries Into the Main Game

CONFIRMED BY SUCKER PUNCH: Cosmetics earned in Most Wanted unlock in the main game as well — Sucker Punch specifically says players can wear them during Atsu’s original quest for vengeance or while playing through Echoes of Sekigahara. That’s the one confirmed link between Most Wanted and the rest of the Complete Edition: cosmetic rewards, not story or mechanical crossover.

What Sucker Punch Still Hasn’t Explained

Pricing or bundling details beyond the October 1 Complete Edition launch, the exact unlock requirements for Jin and the other characters beyond “character unlocks” existing, whether Most Wanted supports any form of co-op, and the full scope of the Yōtei Six bounty ladder beyond Lord Saito as its hardest fight all remain unconfirmed. Sucker Punch has shown the mode’s shape and its four characters in detail — the finer mechanical edges are still to come.
