Sucker Punch Reportedly Cuts 24 Jobs After Layoff Figure Is Corrected

Aftermath has corrected its Sucker Punch layoff report from 26 employees to 24. The reported staff memo does not identify or cancel the studio's next game.

Sucker Punch has reportedly laid off 24 employees, according to Aftermath’s corrected October 26 report. The original article initially put the number at 26; it now explicitly says that figure was wrong and that 24 people were affected.

The distinction matters when comparing reports published earlier in the day. A headline repeating 26 may reflect the original account rather than a separate, larger round of cuts.

Where the corrected number comes from

Aftermath’s Nathan Grayson attributes the headcount to a former Sucker Punch employee. The outlet also says it examined an internal email from studio leadership.

That memo connects the reductions to market conditions and staffing needs for the next project. Aftermath says Sony had not responded to its request for comment when the report was published. The number remains attributed reporting, rather than an on-record Sony confirmation.

What remains unknown about the next project

The reported email says leadership will discuss the studio’s future in more detail the following week. It does not name the next game, announce its release date or establish that a project has been cancelled. It also does not provide a public breakdown of the affected departments.

Sucker Punch is the studio behind Ghost of Tsushima and Ghost of Yōtei. Our earlier Ghost of Yōtei: Most Wanted coverage explains that game’s combat-survival mode and Jin Sakai’s appearance. It covers the game, rather than the employment decisions reported today.
