Tokyo Game Show 2026 Final Day Was Canceled — What Still Streamed Online

Tokyo Game Show 2026’s physical final day was canceled, but the whole event did not simply disappear online. CESA called off Monday, September 21 at Makuhari Messe because of Typhoon No. 25, then confirmed on September 20 that its official program would still stream that day. The useful distinction is that CESA’s own online program and selected exhibitor activity continued, while PlayStation separately canceled its planned September 21 booth demos and streams.

What CESA Actually Announced

In an official notice, CESA said: “Due to the approach of Typhoon No. 25 on Monday, September 21 (a national holiday), winds and rain are expected to intensify in the afternoon, raising concerns about potential disruptions to public transportation. Therefore, prioritizing the safety of all attendees, exhibitors, and staff — as well as ensuring everyone can return home safely — we have decided to cancel the event for the entire day.”

Sunday, September 20 is not affected by this cancellation and proceeded as the show’s final physical day on the Makuhari Messe floor, though CESA noted that weather-dependent changes to specific facilities or activities were still possible.

Refunds

CESA confirmed refunds for September 21 tickets: “We will issue refunds for tickets purchased for Monday, September 21. Please check the instructions provided by the ticket vendor where you purchased your tickets for refund procedures.” Exact refund steps depend on which platform you bought through — CESA hasn’t published one universal process, just this vendor-by-vendor pointer.

CESA’s official program continued online

CESA’s follow-up notice removed the earlier uncertainty: it said the official program would stream as scheduled despite the physical cancellation, alongside event-stage streaming and information or archives from some exhibitors. That was not a replacement for the full show floor. It was a defined online program, with participating companies responsible for details of their own material.

CESA listed Red Bull Revenge from 10:30 a.m. to 1:10 p.m. JST and the Ending Stage from 3:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. JST as official program items. The 3:00 p.m. start comes from the official program listing; it corrects the malformed a.m./p.m. wording on the English notice.

CESA also identified selected exhibitor online activity rather than leaving readers with the earlier impression that no September 21 information had been published. The clearest playable official replay currently verified is Capcom’s TGS 2026 Capcom Stage Live DAY-3 archive, still publicly available through CapcomChannel. CESA’s listing for that broadcast scheduled Mega Man: Dual Override at 10:30 a.m. JST, Monster Hunter Now at noon, and CAPCOM eSports at 4:00 p.m. JST. It is an exhibitor stream, not a CESA event-stage archive.

PlayStation’s cancellation remained separate

PlayStation Japan’s official TGS page still says its September 21 hands-on sessions and streaming events were canceled because of the closure. It also says September 21 demo reservations could not be used. CESA’s online-program notice does not reverse or override that PlayStation-specific decision.

Refunds and what the cancellation did not change

CESA’s ticket guidance remains the same: September 21 tickets are refundable through the vendor from which they were bought. It has not set out one universal refund process in the notice, so ticket holders should use the instructions from their original seller.

So the final result was mixed: no public show-floor day on September 21, refunds for that day’s tickets, a separately canceled PlayStation booth program, and a smaller verified online slate from CESA and participating exhibitors. It would be inaccurate to describe that as Tokyo Game Show reopening or entirely moving online.
