Shape of Dreams Is Out on PS5 — The Starless Path Update Explained
Shape of Dreams has launched on PS5 with cross-play, nine Travelers and The Starless Path update. Here's what the co-op roguelite includes and what changed.

Shape of Dreams has made the jump to PlayStation 5 with a year’s worth of PC development behind it. The September 17 launch includes four-player cross-play and The Starless Path, a free first-anniversary update that brings the roster to nine Travelers and pushes the story beyond its previous ending.
Developer Lizard Smoothie calls this the game’s largest update so far. For new PS5 players, however, it is simply the starting version: Cetus, the expanded progression systems and the tougher bosses are already folded into the package.
PS5 Players Arrive After a Year of PC Updates
Rather than launching with the original PC build, the PS5 edition incorporates changes shaped by more than 1.5 million Steam players, according to Lizard Smoothie. It can be played alone or in an online party of four, and cross-play links PS5 lobbies with PC and other consoles from day one.
Online multiplayer requires PlayStation Plus. Solo play does not. The PlayStation Store also lists Remote Play support and cloud streaming on PS5 and PlayStation Portal for Premium subscribers.
Cross-play covers matchmaking between platforms, but neither the developer’s launch post nor the store listing promises cross-save. Players should not assume their progression will move between PC and PS5.
Cetus Brings Ice and Shields to the Rapids
The ninth Traveler, Cetus, is the most immediate addition in The Starless Path. He fights at range, freezes groups and supplies shields to the party. That makes him a natural defensive pick, although Shape of Dreams does not force its Travelers into fixed MMO-style roles.
Party composition is instead built around interactions between individual builds. A freezing attack can set up bonus damage from another player; a crowd-control ability can pull enemies into range for somebody else’s area attack. Each Traveler still develops independently during a run, but four builds can overlap in ways a solo build cannot.
The Way of Stars Extends the Story
The Starless Path adds The Way of Stars, a constellation-shaped progression route connecting the Travelers’ stories. Deeper runs unlock hidden episodes and illustrations before opening a new ending and a new final boss, described by the studio as the game’s toughest.
Higher difficulties now change existing world bosses, too. New secondary attack patterns give returning encounters more than a numerical bump.
Another system, Fallen Stars and Faded Memories, loosens the rules around passive abilities. A Traveler’s usual Identity Memory can be exchanged for one of six Universal Identity Memories, allowing builds to move away from that character’s standard strengths.
How Memories Reshape a Run
Combat revolves around Memories, the abilities a Traveler equips, and Essences, modifiers that rewrite how those abilities behave. A single-target strike might begin chaining across a group. Another combination can cut an ability’s cooldown whenever it connects. The studio puts the combined pool at more than 200 Memories and Essences.
Before entering the Rapids, players also select one of two active Traveler Memories and one of two passive Identity Memories. Those choices establish the opening direction of a build; the drops found during the run take it from there.
Death resets the run, not every form of progress. Each Traveler has a persistent Constellation, and the anniversary update adds more Stars to place within it.
Price, Launch Bonus and Release Details
NEOWIZ published Shape of Dreams on PS5 on September 17, 2026. Its standard U.S. PlayStation Store price is $24.99, although prices and temporary promotions differ by region. The store listing also advertises the Crimson Flash Lacerta costume as a launch bonus.
The full PS5 release includes nine Travelers, solo play, online co-op for four players, cross-play and the complete Starless Path update. For more current releases, visit the Red Reactions Gaming hub, or read our guide to Minecraft Dungeons II and its four-player co-op campaign.
