DreamWorks Shrek 2 Remastered launches November 10, 2026, Aspyr and Universal announced on October 20. The updated version of the 2004 action-adventure game is coming to PS5, Xbox Series X and Series S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store.

The publisher announcement confirms up to four players in local, online or mixed co-op, alongside updated visuals, a Photo Mode and a Cheats Menu. This gives the release a confirmed date and platform list following the earlier advance store-listing reports.

Platforms and the limits of the 4K announcement

VersionRelease datePublisher’s 4K claim
PC — Steam / Epic Games StoreNovember 10, 2026.4K listed; actual output depends on the PC setup.
PlayStation 5November 10, 2026.4K listed.
Xbox Series X and Series SNovember 10, 2026.Both named in the publisher’s 4K platform footnote; performance details not supplied.
Nintendo Switch 2November 10, 2026.Docked mode only in the announcement.
Nintendo SwitchNovember 10, 2026.No 4K claim made for this version.

That is the scope of Aspyr’s resolution statement. It should not be expanded into a promise of 4K in Switch 2 handheld mode, a particular frame rate or independently measured output on every machine.

How four-player co-op works

The game can be played solo or with up to three other players. Aspyr lists couch co-op, online multiplayer and a mixture of local and online players, rather than limiting co-op to one shared screen.

Players can switch heroes on the fly, using different characters’ abilities in combat and environmental puzzles. The announcement describes journeys through the fairytale settings of the film, including Shrek’s swamp and Far Far Away.

Mixed local/online co-op is not the same claim as cross-platform play. The checked announcement does not establish cross-play or cross-progression between the different systems.

What changes from the 2004 game?

Aspyr describes improved textures, user interface and cutscenes, with Photo Mode and a new Cheats Menu among the additions. Its current Steam listing supplies the remaster’s game imagery and repeats the November 10 date.

The official Aspyr announcement trailer provides a look at the return of Shrek and his companions. These are publisher previews and feature claims, rather than a hands-on assessment of how the finished versions run.

Release timing and remaining details

The announced date spans the named PC stores and console versions, but it does not specify one universal unlock hour. Regional storefront details and any membership-dependent offers should be checked on the applicable platform.

The useful distinction is now clear: this is a dated remaster of the Shrek 2 game, with confirmed local and online co-op options. It is separate from a new Shrek film announcement or an unverified promise about every platform’s performance.
