Bradley Cooper will play Duke in Danny McBride’s new G.I. Joe movie at Paramount. TheWrap reports that Paramount announced the casting on October 1; Variety independently confirms Cooper as the team’s field commander.

The announcement establishes a lead actor for a new interpretation of the Hasbro property. It does not supply a release date or a complete cast.

Who is making the new G.I. Joe movie?

McBride directs from a screenplay written with Jeff Fradley and John Carcieri. Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Mark Vahradian and Zev Foreman produce for Hasbro Entertainment, according to both reports.

Hasbro’s own July 16 announcement had already identified McBride as the director and a screenwriter. Cooper’s casting is the new development; the creative partnership was established earlier.

Is this still the Transformers crossover?

The current reporting describes a G.I. Joe reimagining separated from Transformers. TheWrap says the previously planned crossover is no longer in development, while Variety reports Paramount’s confirmation that the franchises have been uncoupled.

That distinction matters when reading older coverage. An earlier crossover tease is not the premise of the film now being reported. Neither report establishes a reason for the change, so speculation about studio strategy should not be mistaken for an explanation from Paramount.

What remains unannounced?

The verified announcements do not give a theatrical release date, a filming start, the rest of the cast or a final detailed synopsis. Additional casting and plot details remain under wraps in Variety’s report.

Cooper’s casting alone therefore provides no basis to assign a release year, place the film into an existing movie continuity or claim that production has begun. Those are separate milestones requiring their own confirmation.
