Skybound Visions is a new line of standalone limited comics launching in 2027 with Transformers: Bumblebee – Lost Planet, G.I. Joe: The Island of Dr. Mindbender and Turok: Son of Stone. Skybound Entertainment and Image Comics announced the line at New York Comic Con on October 9, working with Hasbro and Universal. The first issue is Bumblebee’s, scheduled for January 27.

The useful distinction for readers is the starting point. These books are presented as complete, independent takes on familiar characters, rather than another chapter readers must catch up on before opening issue #1.

What is Skybound Visions?

In the publisher’s announcement, reproduced by First Comics News, Skybound describes limited series that give creators room to reinterpret established characters. ComicsBeat describes the line as continuity-free.

That makes Visions a separate reading proposition from Skybound’s ongoing Energon Universe books. You do not need to work through those Transformers and G.I. Joe titles first to use these announced standalones as entry points. It also does not mean that Bumblebee, Flint and Turok have been announced as members of a new shared crossover universe.

The first issues and preview schedule

Skybound Visions ashcanNovember 11, 2026An advance look at character designs and the three launch series
Transformers: Bumblebee – Lost Planet #1January 27, 2027Bumblebee stranded on a dangerous alien planet
G.I. Joe: The Island of Dr. Mindbender #1February 2, 2027, as printed in the announcementFlint leading a rescue mission to Mindbender’s island
Turok: Son of Stone #1March 10, 2027An archaeological discovery leading into a prehistoric world

A date caveat for G.I. Joe: February 2, 2027 falls on a Tuesday. The reproduced publisher statement gives that date, and ICv2 repeats it, but a separate official calendar or retailer listing has not been established here. Treat it as the announced date pending the final solicitation; it has not been silently changed to Wednesday, February 3.

These are comic-shop dates, not a verified Swedish or worldwide digital release schedule. The November ashcan is a preview, not issue #1 of any of the three stories.

Bumblebee: an alien-world survival story

Lost Planet pairs writer Tate Brombal with artist Matt Emmons, colorist Giovanna Niro and letterer Becca Carey. Its premise leaves Bumblebee cut off after a Decepticon attack, facing an unfamiliar ecosystem and a pursuing enemy.

The newly revealed Cover A, shown above, depicts this version of Bumblebee among the planet’s strange life forms. It is artwork for the announced comic, rather than an image from a Transformers film or the ongoing Energon Universe series.

G.I. Joe: Flint’s rescue mission

Karl Kerschl writes The Island of Dr. Mindbender, with art by Doug Mahnke, inks by Jaime Mendoza, colors by David Baron and letters by Tom Napolitano.

Flint returns to active duty to lead recruits after an earlier team disappears on Mindbender’s island. The publisher positions the mission around action and horror, with the scientist’s increasingly monstrous creations standing between the Joes and their missing teammates.

Turok: a dig that opens into prehistory

Stephen Graham Jones writes Son of Stone, with artist Leandro Fernández, colorist Lee Loughridge and letterer Tom Napolitano. Turok’s New Mexico dig drops him into a valley where different prehistoric eras coexist; getting back to his son drives his search for a way out.

This is the Gold Key character’s new comic project. The announcement does not establish a tie-in to the separate Turok: Origins video game.

Where should a new reader start?

Choose the premise you want and start at that book’s #1. The ashcan offers an earlier sampling opportunity, but the publisher has not presented it as compulsory reading. There is no announced reading order connecting the three miniseries.

Total issue counts, later issue dates and international or digital availability still need their own solicitations. Check those details with your comic shop before treating the launch table as a complete buying schedule. Follow our Comics News coverage for further publishing announcements.
