Grimlock and the Dinobots will make their Energon Universe comics debut in Transformers #42, with an advertised comic-shop release of March 10, 2027. Skybound revealed the development at New York Comic Con on October 10 and published the announcement through its official account.

The publisher’s carousel supplies the issue number, creative team and cover reveals. Its third image prints the full March 10, 2027 date. That is the announced comic-shop schedule; it does not establish identical availability across international stores or digital services.

Who is making Transformers #42?

The announced team is Robert Kirkman on writing, Dan Mora on interior art, Mike Spicer on colors and Rus Wooton on letters.

Cover credits are separate. Skybound identifies Jason Howard as the artist of Cover A, whose Dinobots artwork also appears in the campaign visual above. The other revealed editions include Cover B by Daniel Warren Johnson and Mike Spicer, and a 1:25 Cover D by Jorge Corona and Mike Spicer.

The artwork puts Grimlock’s dinosaur form alongside his teammates’ robot forms. It establishes the group as the focus of the reveal without explaining their full origin or how they enter the ongoing conflict. Skybound’s announcement specifically names Grimlock; it does not supply a complete written roster.

The Dinobots, Megatronus Rex and Beachcomber are different developments

The NYCC panel also previewed earlier issues. Keeping the issue numbers separate helps distinguish the Dinobots’ arrival from Megatron’s transformation.

Image Comics’ #38 listing credits Kirkman, Jason Howard and Spicer, and describes Megatron emerging from his cocoon. Bleeding Cool’s on-site report connects that development to the Megatronus Rex name and identifies Howard Porter’s involvement with Beachcomber’s #40 story.

These announcements describe different points in the same ongoing title. They do not establish that Megatron’s new form creates the Dinobots or explains their dinosaur designs.

Where this fits for new readers

The #42 reveal concerns Skybound and Image Comics’ ongoing Energon Universe Transformers series. Readers can use the official series archive to identify earlier issues and follow the existing run before the Dinobots arrive.

It is a separate project from Skybound Visions: Bumblebee – Lost Planet and the other announced standalones. Those books offer independent takes on their characters; their launch does not replace the ongoing title or change the Dinobots’ announced issue number.
