HBO's Harry Potter Cast Guide: Every Confirmed Actor in Season 1 and Who's Already Set for Season 2
Every confirmed actor in HBO's Harry Potter, from Dominic McLaughlin's Harry to John Lithgow's Dumbledore, plus the Season 2 castings already locked in.

HBO’s Harry Potter arrives this Christmas with the largest ensemble the franchise has ever assembled for a single season, and the official cast list has quietly grown into something worth keeping in one place. This guide covers every confirmed actor and role, as published on the franchise’s official site, and separates the Season 1 company from the names already locked for Season 2.
The eight-episode first season adapts Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone and debuts at Christmas 2026 on HBO and HBO Max. For what the footage itself has shown so far, our September trailer breakdown covers Quirrell, the Mirror of Erised and the troll.
The trio
- Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter
- Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger
- Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley
All three are newcomers, cast from an open search that HBO has said drew tens of thousands of auditions. McLaughlin fronts both teasers released so far, and the marketing has been built around his Harry from the first still onwards.
Hogwarts teachers and staff
The adult casting is where HBO has spent its prestige budget, and the staff table reads like a West End curtain call:
- John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore
- Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall
- Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape
- Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid
- Luke Thallon as Quirinus Quirrell
- Warwick Davis as Filius Flitwick
- Sirine Saba as Pomona Sprout
- Richard Durden as Cuthbert Binns
- Louise Brealey as Rolanda Hooch
- Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch
- Bríd Brennan as Poppy Pomfrey
Davis is the one direct link to the film series, having played Flitwick (and Griphook) across the original movies. Thallon’s Quirrell is the closest thing Season 1 has to a confirmed on-screen antagonist: no Voldemort casting has been announced, and HBO’s materials have kept the character entirely out of view.
The Dursleys, the Ministry and Diagon Alley
- Bel Powley as Petunia Dursley
- Daniel Rigby as Vernon Dursley
- Amos Kitson as Dudley Dursley
- Bertie Carvel as Cornelius Fudge
- Anton Lesser as Garrick Ollivander
- Leigh Gill as Griphook
- Peter Serafinowicz as Peeves
Peeves is the casting that signals intent. The poltergeist was cut from every film, so Serafinowicz’s role is the clearest early evidence that the series means to adapt material the movies never had room for.
The Weasleys
- Katherine Parkinson as Molly Weasley
- Tristan Harland and Gabriel Harland as Fred and George
- Ruari Spooner as Percy Weasley
- Gracie Cochrane as Ginny Weasley (Season 1)
Ginny is the list’s one asterisk: Cochrane plays her in Season 1, with Bonnie Hill taking over for Season 2, when the character moves from the platform to the plot.
The student body
Season 1 fills out all four houses with named, cast roles rather than background players. Gryffindor gets Rory Wilmot as Neville Longbottom, Leo Earley as Seamus Finnigan, Elijah Oshin as Dean Thomas, Alessia Leoni and Sienna Moosah as Parvati Patil and Lavender Brown, plus a full Quidditch roster around Orson Matthews’ Oliver Wood. Slytherin pairs Lox Pratt’s Draco Malfoy with Johnny Flynn as Lucius, alongside Crabbe, Goyle, Pansy Parkinson and an entire named Quidditch team. Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw each get four named first-years, including India Moon as Hannah Abbott and Anjula Murali as Padma Patil.
That depth is the structural tell. The films compressed the student body into a handful of speaking parts; the series is casting classmates years before their stories matter.
Already confirmed for Season 2
Seven castings are explicitly marked for the Chamber of Secrets season:
- Kit Harington as Gilderoy Lockhart
- Rafe Spall as Arthur Weasley
- Bonnie Hill as Ginny Weasley
- Billy Barratt as Tom Riddle
- Lenny Rush as Dobby
- Molly Hewitt-Richards as Moaning Myrtle
- Jasper Ambrose as Colin Creevey
Lockhart has the messiest history of the batch: Nicholas Hoult was initially reported in the role before Kit Harington replaced him, and Spall, Hewitt-Richards and Ambrose were announced together in September. Barratt’s Tom Riddle is the quiet headline: Season 2 will put a face on the young Voldemort before any present-day version has been cast.
What is still unannounced
No actor has been named for Voldemort in his restored form, for Sirius Black, Remus Lupin or any role beyond the Chamber of Secrets ensemble. Given the one-book-per-season structure, those announcements have at least a year of runway, and HBO has so far released castings in batches tied to each season’s production rather than teasing ahead.
The complete, continually updated list lives on the franchise’s official site, and this guide reflects it as of mid-October 2026.
