Harry Potter Season 2 Casts Arthur Weasley, Moaning Myrtle and Colin Creevey

HBO’s Harry Potter has added three Season 2 castings that go well beyond filling out the credits list: Rafe Spall as Arthur Weasley, Molly Hewitt-Richards as Moaning Myrtle, and Jasper Ambrose as Colin Creevey. All three characters become central to Chamber of Secrets, the book and film Season 2 is adapting.

Who’s playing whom

Rafe Spall takes on Arthur Weasley, Ron’s father and the head of the Weasley household — a role that substantially expands Harry’s world beyond Hogwarts itself once the story reaches the Burrow. Spall is the son of Timothy Spall, who played Peter “Wormtail” Pettigrew across the original film series, giving this casting a small but real continuity with the movies even though the two actors are playing unrelated characters.

Molly Hewitt-Richards has been cast as Moaning Myrtle, described in Deadline and TheWrap’s reporting as the ghost who haunts a girls’ bathroom at Hogwarts. Myrtle is tied directly to the central mystery of Chamber of Secrets — without getting into how the book resolves that mystery, her bathroom is where a lot of the season’s most important discoveries happen.

Jasper Ambrose plays Colin Creevey, a first-year Gryffindor introduced in Chamber of Secrets as an eager, camera-toting fan of Harry’s. In the films, Creevey’s role was trimmed down substantially from the book; casting him as a named, credited character suggests HBO’s adaptation may give him more room than the 2002 movie did, though nothing officially confirms how large his part will actually be this time.

Why these three characters matter

Arthur Weasley’s arrival is a meaningful expansion of Harry’s world rather than a minor supporting addition. Where Season 1 kept Harry largely confined to Hogwarts and the Dursleys, Arthur brings the Weasley family’s home life into the show for the first time, alongside his role at the Ministry of Magic — both become relevant once Chamber of Secrets gets underway.

Moaning Myrtle and the mystery she’s tied to are close to the engine of Chamber of Secrets itself; without spoiling how that mystery resolves, her presence in the cast list is a strong signal that HBO intends to give the Chamber’s central plot real weight rather than compressing it. Colin Creevey, meanwhile, is a character whose book role was noticeably reduced in the 2002 film. Casting him as a named, credited part for the series doesn’t guarantee he’ll get more screen time than the movie gave him, but it’s a different starting point than the film adaptation had.

How this fits Season 2’s casting so far

This is the latest addition to a Season 2 cast that’s been filling in gradually. HBO had already confirmed Lenny Rush as Dobby, Bonnie Hill as Ginny Weasley and Billy Barratt as Tom Riddle. It also follows the recent recast of Gilderoy Lockhart, where Kit Harington replaced Nicholas Hoult just 13 days after Hoult’s original casting was announced. Combined with Arthur Weasley, Moaning Myrtle and Colin Creevey, those announcements establish several of the Chamber of Secrets adaptation’s book-specific characters without establishing a Season 2 premiere date.

What’s confirmed about timing

Season 2 adapts Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. Season 1, which adapts Philosopher’s Stone, remains set to premiere December 25, 2026 on HBO and HBO Max — the same date confirmed in Red Reactions’ most recent Season 1 trailer breakdown. HBO has not announced a Season 2 premiere date, and nothing about this casting news changes that.
