Keep your farm if you want to see how Lightyear Frontier ends. Version 1.0 arrived on Steam and Xbox Series X|S on November 4. FRAME BREAK says Early Access saves still work, the new achievements can be earned on those saves, and owners get the update without buying the game again.

Where an old farm picks up

If you finished the Automation Update, your next stop is the new endgame. The developers have added two progression milestones and a final chapter. You can take the mech and homestead you already built into both Sandswept Highlands and Hollow Marsh. The regions are open from the start of the game, but the Highlands contain late-game resources and tougher Floaters. Starting a new file doesn’t grant earlier access to that part of the map.

One thing to check when you load a long-running farm: its buildings. The 1.0 patch notes warn that a fix to structural support can cause previously floating constructs to collapse. Save compatibility means your world carries over; it doesn’t guarantee that every structure still stands under the new rules.

When a fresh start makes sense

Start a second farm if working your way up was the part you liked. Automation now begins at Milestone 4, and upgrading tools no longer means recrafting them tier by tier. A veteran loading a developed farm can use the revised systems, but won’t experience those unlocks arriving at their new points in the campaign.

For a returning player who wants a different pace, a restart isn’t the only choice to consider. The release adds settings for day length, fuel consumption, hazards and crop growth times. The developer’s 1.0 FAQ also makes a distinction for PC players who deliberately selected the Legacy branch: that branch received no changes with 1.0. If you went looking for the new regions there, a new save on that same branch isn’t the answer.
