Mass Effect: Universe Trailer Leak Verified by Journalists After Cancellation
Jason Schreier authenticated the leaked Mass Effect: Universe trailer. What its pre-production footage establishes, EA’s cancellation and the separate TV report.

The leaked Mass Effect: Universe trailer is authentic, according to journalist Jason Schreier. It offers a glimpse of BioWare’s canceled project, rather than evidence that the game is coming back.
The video surfaced on October 22, one day after EA announced it would end the studio’s early Mass Effect development and close BioWare. Those are separate confirmations: EA established the cancellation; journalists authenticated the unofficial trailer.
Who verified the Mass Effect trailer?
In his October 22 public post, Bloomberg journalist Schreier said the trailer came from the Mass Effect game BioWare had been developing up to its closure. The Verge’s Jay Peters also reported that IGN independently verified it.
That corroboration establishes the material’s connection to the canceled project. It does not turn the upload into an EA announcement or establish that every element would have survived development.
What does the leaked footage show?
According to The Verge’s account, the trailer identifies its images as in-engine footage using pre-production assets. An ex-soldier speaks with an Asari in a bar, a flashback depicts a fight, and the video cuts to brief action sequences before ending with the title Mass Effect: Universe.
That name is the label in the leaked trailer, not an officially announced retail title. Likewise, in-engine presentation does not establish a finished playable build, a final mission structure or how combat would have worked. This report uses the published scene description; it does not reproduce the leaked video or its frames.
| Question | What is established |
|---|---|
| Is the trailer authentic? | Schreier confirmed it; The Verge reports separate IGN verification. |
| Is Universe an official product announcement? | It is the title shown in the unofficial pre-production trailer. |
| Is the game still scheduled for release? | EA says the Mass Effect development will not move forward. |
| Are a release date or platforms confirmed? | These sources establish neither. |
Does this change the cancellation or TV series?
EA’s October 21 statement remains the relevant game-status announcement. The leaked trailer documents past development; it supplies no announcement of a restart, replacement studio or release plan.
Amazon’s separate television adaptation has a different reported status. In The Verge’s October 21 follow-up, Peters relayed IGN’s reporting that Prime Video was continuing development. He also said EA and Amazon declined to comment. That is an attributed development report, not a confirmed production timetable or release date.
