Netflix has released the first official trailer for Greta Gerwig’s Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew. The October 13 preview moves beyond September’s production photographs, introducing magical rings, two young travelers and the possibility of many worlds beyond their own. You can watch Netflix’s original upload below.

The release campaign still leads with February 12, 2027 in theaters and April 2 on Netflix, with IMAX previews from February 10. There is already a useful regional distinction: Sony’s official UK trailer advertises February 11 for cinemas.

This is the video published by Netflix on October 13, also promoted through Tudum’s official trailer page. It should not be confused with earlier fan videos using an official-trailer label.

Rings, a workshop and worlds beyond the familiar

The preview gives the journey a practical starting point: a ring handled in a cluttered room, then children confronting the possibility that magic is real. Its dialogue introduces Uncle Andrew as a magician and expands the premise from a single hidden place to hundreds, perhaps infinitely many, other worlds.

That makes the rings more than decorative fantasy objects. The trailer presents them alongside the question of what lies on the other side, establishing travel into the unknown as the immediate hook. It also shows the young travelers in an enormous, blue-lit interior, extending the visual scale beyond the enclosed workshop.

The later dialogue turns from discovering places to witnessing creation: “Have you ever seen a world born?” That is consistent with Netflix’s announced origin-story premise. It does not establish the order of the finished film’s scenes or every step of the children’s journey.

Our September first-look feature covers the earlier Wood Between the Worlds photographs, the cast and the production background. Those stills remain useful context, but they are separate material from today’s moving-image reveal.

Why this is an origin story

Netflix describes the film as an adaptation of C. S. Lewis’s 1955 novel, with Gerwig writing and directing. Although published after The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, The Magician’s Nephew takes place earlier in Narnia’s chronology and concerns the world’s beginnings.

The trailer’s focus on passage between worlds therefore offers a different entry point from the wardrobe story familiar from earlier adaptations. David McKenna and Beatrice Campbell lead the film, alongside a cast including Daniel Craig and Emma Mackey. The new preview does not establish how much of the novel’s detail survives into the final screenplay.

The cinema and Netflix dates

Release stageCurrent official date
Netflix-announced IMAX sneak previewsFebruary 10, 2027
UK cinemas, according to Sony’s UK trailerFebruary 11, 2027
Netflix’s main theatrical campaign dateFebruary 12, 2027
Netflix streaming debutApril 2, 2027

Sony Pictures Releasing UK’s official upload states that UK audiences can see it first in IMAX on February 10 and in cinemas on February 11. That earlier date is why the main February 12 campaign should not be treated as identical in every territory.

Netflix says it handles domestic theatrical distribution, while Sony Pictures Entertainment distributes outside North America. Country-specific cinema listings will establish participating theaters and showtimes. The announced Netflix date is a release target, rather than a check of every local catalog or a confirmed universal unlock hour.
