Quentin Tarantino says he has written a film script he likes, but has not committed to making it next. His immediate priority is the stage comedy The Popinjay Cavalier, followed by time with his family before deciding what to do about another movie.

Variety’s October 18 report quotes his comments on The Graham Norton Show. A dated account from Female First identifies the appearance as the October 16 episode. The remarks establish a screenplay, rather than a production start or a release announcement for his prospective tenth feature as director.

What Tarantino actually said

“I’ve written a script that I really like,” Tarantino said, as quoted by Variety. He then described wanting to finish the play, spend time with his family and decide afterward what he wants to pursue.

That leaves the next filmmaking decision open. His long-stated intention to stop after ten features is a career plan; these comments do not establish that this particular screenplay will become a completed final film.

The play has a venue and dates

Unlike the unnamed film project, The Popinjay Cavalier has an officially announced production. Tarantino writes and directs the swashbuckling comedy, with Sacha Baron Cohen starring. It is produced by Sony Pictures Entertainment and Sonia Friedman Productions for London’s Phoenix Theatre in spring 2027.

The official ticket page lists performances from February 23, 2027. Those are London theatre dates. They do not supply a filming start or release window for a movie.

The stage story is set in 1830s Europe and follows actor Rupert Sebastian Thomas Jr., whose trip to perform in Paris becomes dangerous after he insults the French. That synopsis belongs to the play, not to an announced tenth-film plot. Variety also reports Tarantino saying the play began as a screenplay before he decided it worked on stage; that history does not itself announce a screen adaptation.

What remains unannounced about the movie?

Why the Cliff Booth film is a separate project

The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth can create confusion because Tarantino wrote its screenplay. But Netflix identifies David Fincher as the director, with Brad Pitt returning as Cliff in a story set in 1977.

Writing another filmmaker’s movie is different from announcing his own next directorial feature. Our Cliff Booth trailer guide covers that film’s story, cast and release plan separately.
