The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth Trailer Moves Fincher's Fixer Story to 1977

Netflix’s full trailer for The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth brings Brad Pitt’s character into 1977, eight years after the 1969 story in Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood. David Fincher directs from a new Quentin Tarantino screenplay. The film begins an exclusive two-week global IMAX run on November 25, then arrives on Netflix on December 23, 2026.

Cliff Booth is now a Hollywood fixer

Netflix’s synopsis gives Cliff a different professional life. He still has the practical skills associated with stunt work, but now earns money as a bartender and projectionist while operating as a fixer for people in Hollywood. The work involves solving sensitive problems, sometimes outside ordinary legal boundaries.

That setup explains the trailer’s movement between back rooms, wealthy homes, studios and criminal encounters without making every image a confirmed plot beat. Netflix describes the movie as a crime story involving murder, blackmail, theft and extortion, but it has not revealed which characters are responsible for each element or how Cliff’s assignments connect.

The time jump is equally specific. It is 1977, and Netflix frames Los Angeles as having moved beyond the fairy-tale version of 1969 in Tarantino’s earlier film. This is a continuation centered on Cliff rather than a replay of Rick Dalton’s story.

The confirmed new characters

Elizabeth Debicki plays talent agent Karen Crosby, who contacts Cliff on behalf of her client Charlie Peters, a television star played by Scott Caan. Carla Gugino plays Charlie’s wife, Toni.

Yahya Abdul-Mateen II appears as Roderick “Hot Rod” Harrison, a former professional football player who has become a screen actor. Matt Groove and JB Tadena play the Verdusco brothers, gangsters whom Netflix says are causing problems across the city.

Peter Weller, Corey Fogelmanis and Karren Karagulian are also in the official cast. Netflix has not identified every character seen in the trailer, and it has not announced Leonardo DiCaprio as returning as Rick Dalton. The safest reading is that Cliff is the confirmed bridge to the earlier film while the new ensemble drives the 1977 story.

Fincher directs Tarantino’s screenplay

The creative handoff is straightforward: Tarantino wrote the new screenplay, while Fincher directs. That is different from Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood, which Tarantino both wrote and directed.

Netflix also confirms several long-time Fincher collaborators. Erik Messerschmidt is director of photography, Donald Graham Burt is production designer and Kirk Baxter edits. Pitt and Ceán Chaffin produce.

Those credits establish who shaped the film, but they do not turn the trailer into evidence for a particular tone or ending. The footage can show Fincher’s visual approach; it cannot settle how closely the finished film follows the rhythm of Tarantino’s earlier movie.

The IMAX and Netflix release plan

The November 25 engagement is specifically a global IMAX run and is exclusive for two weeks. Netflix has not described it as a conventional release on every theatrical screen or published a theater count in its current announcement.

The streaming date is December 23. That creates a clear window: IMAX first, then Netflix four weeks later. Viewers do not need to infer either date from the trailer because Netflix has published both in its official release announcement.

The trailer fills in Cliff’s new job and introduces the 1977 ensemble. It still leaves the individual assignments, alliances and outcome of the Hollywood crime story undisclosed.
