The Prestige Sets January 29, 2027 US Rerelease in IMAX and 70mm
The Prestige returns to select US theaters January 29, 2027. Learn what IMAX and 70mm mean here, and why the announcement does not establish a worldwide date.

The Prestige is returning to select US theaters on January 29, 2027, with 70mm film and IMAX presentations. Walt Disney Studios announced the anniversary engagement on October 20; the date is also confirmed in Variety’s October 21 reporting.
This is a return for Christopher Nolan’s 2006 film, starring Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale, rather than a sequel or remake. The twentieth-anniversary campaign begins in 2026, while the advertised theatrical engagement falls in January 2027.
IMAX and 70mm describe different presentation options
| Listing | What the announcement establishes |
|---|---|
| January 29, 2027 | US rerelease date, at select theaters |
| 70mm film | A film presentation option; participating venues remain to be checked |
| IMAX | The film’s first IMAX engagement, according to the campaign and Nolan’s statement |
| IMAX 70mm | Not promised for every IMAX screening; verify the specific venue’s listing |
“70mm and IMAX” does not mean every IMAX screening uses a 70mm film print. The announcement names presentation options without publishing a venue-by-venue equipment or print list. A cinema’s eventual listing needs to identify the format of the particular performance.
Nolan’s statement, carried by Variety and NME, welcomes the chance to show the film on 70mm and in IMAX for the first time. That is narrower than a claim that every theater will receive both versions.
Is January 29 a worldwide release date?
A worldwide rollout is not established by Disney’s announcement. TheWrap explains the original distribution split: Disney handled the US and Canada through Touchstone, with Warner Bros. handling overseas distribution. NME identifies January 29 as the confirmed US date and says international plans remain unannounced in that campaign.
Those rights arrangements do not guarantee the same date in every country. A complete participating-cinema list, local showtimes and ticket-sale schedule are not supplied in the checked sources. Readers outside the US should wait for their distributor’s or cinema’s own listing.
What film is being rereleased?
Jackman and Bale play rival magicians in a story about obsession, competition and closely guarded methods. The film adapts Christopher Priest’s novel, with a screenplay by Jonathan Nolan and Christopher Nolan. The anniversary poster shown here is the authentic Disney campaign image, including the announced formats and January 29 date.
Our release calendar records this as a scoped theatrical return, with no inferred streaming date or promise of local availability.
