Warner Bros. has released the final trailer for Dune: Part Three, and the release plan has not moved: the film opens only in theaters and IMAX across North America on December 18, 2026, with international rollout beginning December 16. The trailer is live on Warner Bros.’ official YouTube channel under the title “Dune: Part Three | Final Trailer”. Bleeding Cool and Dark Horizons both logged the drop on October 27, 2026, roughly seven weeks before release, alongside a batch of new posters.

This is the last trailer before Denis Villeneuve’s third and final Dune film. It is not a new announcement of the film, its cast or its date; all of that was already public. What is new is the footage, the official synopsis attached to it, the posters and the studio’s own framing of the finale.

The official synopsis

The synopsis released with the trailer places the story nearly two decades after Paul Atreides seized control of the Imperium. Paul is now a ruthless Emperor facing the consequences of his reign. Old allies return, new threats emerge and betrayal is everywhere. Haunted by visions of the Imperium’s collapse and the return of a long-lost love, he is drawn into a sweeping conspiracy centered on Chani, and as rebellion brews he must confront the true cost of power.

That is the studio’s wording, paraphrased. It tracks the shape of Dune Messiah without naming the Tleilaxu plot or the ghola at its center. For what the novel actually covers and how it differs from a conventional sequel, read our Dune Messiah explainer.

Cast

The synopsis lists Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Jason Momoa, Florence Pugh, Rebecca Ferguson, Isaach de Bankolé, Charlotte Rampling, Anya Taylor-Joy, Robert Pattinson and Javier Bardem. The roles below match the Wikipedia cast list, which is sourced to earlier trade reporting.

  • Timothée Chalamet as Paul Atreides, now Padishah Emperor
  • Zendaya as Chani
  • Florence Pugh as Princess Irulan, Paul’s wife
  • Anya Taylor-Joy as Alia Atreides, Paul’s sister
  • Jason Momoa as Hayt, a ghola of Duncan Idaho
  • Robert Pattinson as Scytale, a Tleilaxu Face Dancer
  • Javier Bardem as Stilgar
  • Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica
  • Isaach de Bankolé as Farok
  • Charlotte Rampling as Reverend Mother Mohiam

Josh Brolin’s return as Gurney Halleck, and the casting of Nakoa-Wolf Momoa and Ida Brooke as Paul and Chani’s twins, Leto II and Ghanima, are on the same Wikipedia list from earlier reports. They are not named in the synopsis text released with this trailer, so treat those as previously reported rather than restated by the studio here.

What the trailer and thumbnail show

Warner Bros.’ own thumbnail is a close-up of Zendaya’s Chani, eyes closed and tearful, held in an embrace by a figure in a stillsuit. Bleeding Cool describes the trailer as leaning into the stranger corners of Herbert’s universe and hinting at where the saga ends. Dark Horizons reports that Villeneuve has described the film as leaning further into thriller territory, with more action than the first two films. We are not describing individual shots beyond that; watch the trailer above for the footage itself.

The official Dune account on X posted the trailer with the line “The final fight for Arrakis. Dune: Part Three only in theaters and IMAX December 18,” and IMAX’s account added that the film is “proudly presented in IMAX 70mm,” according to Dark Horizons.

Format and the IMAX plan

Dark Horizons and Wikipedia both describe the film as shot mainly on 65mm film, with select sequences on 15/70mm IMAX film and desert scenes captured on IMAX-certified digital cameras. That is why the IMAX 70mm presentation matters more here than for most releases.

The trailer changes nothing about the early-access plan. Limited IMAX 70mm Insider screenings are listed for December 14 ahead of the wide release; our early IMAX screenings story has the details and the distinction between those showings and the regular run.

The December 18 crowd

December 18 is a crowded Friday in the United States. Avengers: Doomsday opens the same day, and Sony’s Jumanji: Open World follows a week later on December 25. The full month is tracked on our release calendar.

What is still unconfirmed

Warner Bros. has not published a runtime, and the studio has not announced territory-by-territory international dates beyond the December 16 start. Dark Horizons describes this as Villeneuve’s and Chalamet’s last film in the franchise; the studio’s own trailer copy calls it the final fight for Arrakis without addressing any future films. We will update this story if Warner Bros. confirms a runtime or a wider date list.
