Craig Zobel will direct Blumhouse’s live-action Something Is Killing the Children film, following an announcement at the studio’s New York Comic Con BlumFest presentation on October 9. No release date or cast is established in the announcement checked for this article.

TheWrap’s report confirms the director’s involvement. The news concerns a feature film adapted from James Tynion IV and Werther Dell’Edera’s horror comic; a separate adult animated television adaptation is also in development.

What is Something Is Killing the Children?

The comic began in 2019. Its central figure, Erica Slaughter, hunts monsters in a story built around children facing threats that the adults around them struggle to understand. BOOM! Studios’ series page is the publisher’s source for the comic and its creative credits.

That premise gives a newcomer enough context without exposing the series’ major revelations. Erica’s work creates a relationship between supernatural danger, vulnerable children and the people who do or do not believe them. How the film introduces that relationship will matter more than a checklist of familiar images alone.

The publisher’s current comic synopsis is not a confirmed synopsis for the movie. A later arc, location or supporting character appearing on the comic’s website should not automatically be treated as part of the adaptation.

Who is making the film?

The studio statement, reproduced by Daily Dead, names Zobel as director and identifies Stephen Christy and James Tynion IV as producers for BOOM! Studios/Penguin Random House, alongside Blumhouse’s Jason Blum.

Werther Dell’Edera is a co-producer. The named executive producers are Shaun Sutton, Ryan Turek, Adam Yoelin and Mette Norkjaer. These credits establish the announced production team; they do not identify a screenwriter or give a start-of-filming date.

Creator involvement is a relevant production fact, but it does not settle the adaptation’s structure. The verified announcement does not specify which issues the feature will cover, whether it will compress multiple arcs, or how much of Erica’s background it will reveal.

How does the animated series fit in?

The live-action film and adult animated TV project are separate adaptations. Tynion is guiding the animated project, according to the BlumFest statement. Zobel’s new directing announcement applies to the feature.

This distinction is useful when following later news. Casting for the film would not automatically establish the animated voice cast, and progress on one production would not provide a premiere schedule for the other. Neither project’s format should be silently carried across to its counterpart.

Is there a release date, cast or trailer?

The checked October announcement does not provide a release date, cast, filming window or distributor for the feature. It also does not supply an official film trailer. Comic artwork and announcement graphics are not footage from a completed adaptation.

A director attachment is a concrete development step, but it cannot establish when audiences will see the result. The next useful announcements would be casting, a production schedule, distribution and a dated release plan. Until those arrive, assigning the film a release year would turn an open question into an unsupported promise.
