S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 Update 2.1 Adds NPC Distance Settings and Squad-Leader Fast Travel
The Zone Lookout adds adjustable A-Life NPC visibility and paid squad-leader travel. Here is the settings path, performance trade-off and travel limits.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl’s version 2.1 update, The Zone Lookout, adds a setting for seeing A-Life NPCs farther away and a paid fast-travel option through squad leaders. GSC Game World published the update and its official patch notes on October 26, 2026.
The practical difference is a choice about visibility and a new way to shorten some journeys. Neither feature removes the game’s existing limits: a higher distance setting can cost performance, while a squad leader cannot take you anywhere on the map.
Where to change A-Life NPC distance
GSC’s official showcase gives this menu path: Settings → Game → Visualisation options.
The available presets control the visualization range primarily for A-Life NPCs. Quest and scripted characters are handled differently, so this is not a universal draw-distance switch for every person in the game.
GSC recommends leaving the default preset in place for stability. Higher settings may affect performance; Dynamic adjusts the range to the hardware. The selection of presets can differ between PC and consoles. The announcement does not supply a single fixed distance or an FPS improvement that applies to every system.
How squad-leader fast travel works
Look for a friendly or neutral squad leader, now identified on the compass, and speak to them to see the offered destinations. GSC says these are nearby places you have already explored, restricted to the squad’s route.
You pay for the journey, and an overloaded inventory remains a problem. This makes the service useful when a squad is going your way, rather than a replacement for every journey across the Zone. No universal fare is specified in the announcement.
Other changes and the full notes
The complete developer patch notes on Steam also list binocular adjustments for the new streaming distances, anomaly changes and mission fixes. They advise disabling mods if the update causes performance or stability problems, with further help through GSC’s support center.
GSC’s showcase separately describes changes to distant gunfire audio and weapon ballistics to support longer-range encounters. These are developer-reported changes, rather than a benchmark or hands-on verdict.
The game is available on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Check that your installed version has updated to 2.1 before looking for the new options; the announcements do not provide one universal storefront download time.
