Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 has an announced October 14, 2026 release date for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Auroch Digital’s retro shooter brings back Ultramarine Malum Caedo and adds Sister of Battle Nyra Veyrath, with different weapons and movement abilities. A Nintendo Switch 2 version follows later; it has no confirmed day in the developer’s current announcement.

Platforms and launch-day status

The developer’s platform announcement establishes the release date. Storefront access is a separate check: in our October 14 checks, Steam still displayed a pre-purchase option and a release countdown, the US Xbox listing said pre-order, and the US PS5 page showed a countdown and wishlist options. Those snapshots do not establish a universal unlock time.

The official FAQ describes a digital-only release, with no physical edition currently planned. The game is a single-player experience: having two selectable heroes does not mean a two-player co-op campaign.

Malum Caedo and Nyra Veyrath compared

Lead designer Matt Bone’s Xbox Wire explanation describes Nyra as a more agile alternative to Malum. These are the developer’s announced mechanics, rather than our performance impressions.

HeroIdentityAnnounced combat style
Malum CaedoReturning Ultramarine Sternguard VeteranSpace Marine firepower and a chainsword
Nyra VeyrathCelestian Sister of BattleFlame weapons, including a Heavy Flamer; a Melta Bomb; Bolt Pistol and Power Sword

Nyra’s Fervent Slide can hit enemies in her path and lead into a leap. Bone also describes a time-slowing option during the leap, an early-detonation option for her Melta Bomb, and a forward Power Sword thrust. The distinction is a different toolkit for navigating and attacking, rather than a second character skin.

What changes in the campaign?

The sequel continues from the original Boltgun into a branching campaign, with different levels along its paths. The official game description highlights a hive city and jungle mangroves, alongside enemies including Bloodletters and their daemonic Juggernauts. A navigation guide is among the listed additions.

Auroch’s FAQ also confirms that Mick Gordon contributed original music for the Vashtorr boss encounter. That is a specific contribution, rather than confirmation that Gordon composed the entire soundtrack.

Steam demo and PC requirements

The Steam page offers a separate Boltgun 2 demo, which Auroch identifies as Steam-exclusive. The checked sources do not establish whether demo progress transfers into the full game.

For the full game, the current Steam listing specifies 8 GB RAM, 13 GB available storage, DirectX 12 and a 64-bit Windows 10 minimum. Auroch’s FAQ displays different hardware and storage figures, so consult the current store requirements before downloading rather than treating the two lists as interchangeable. Listed performance targets are publisher specifications, not our measurements.

When is the Switch 2 version coming?

Auroch says it will arrive shortly after the other platforms, without giving a calendar date. October 14 should therefore not be presented as the Switch 2 release date. Follow the developer for that version’s announcement, or browse our Gaming coverage and release calendar for more confirmed schedules.
