Metro 2033 Redux and Metro: Last Light Redux receive a free next-gen update on October 22, 2026 for Steam, Epic Games Store and GOG. PS5, PS5 Pro, Xbox Series X|S and Windows Store follow on October 29. Japan’s console release is scheduled for November, with no exact day in the announcements checked.
The PLAION support FAQ supplies the Windows Store exception to the broader PC date in Deep Silver’s October 1 announcement. The update adds current hardware support and technical improvements to the two existing Redux games. The publisher explicitly describes it as an update rather than a full remaster or remake.
Release dates by platform
| Version or storefront | Announced release |
|---|---|
| Steam, Epic Games Store and GOG | October 22, 2026 |
| Windows Store | October 29, 2026 |
| PS5 and PS5 Pro | October 29, 2026; Japan in November |
| Xbox Series X|S | October 29, 2026; Japan in November |
No exact launch hour has been supplied in the material checked. The November exception does not establish a specific Japanese release day.
Who gets the upgrade free?
The publisher lists existing owners on the supported PC stores and PlayStation/Xbox platforms as eligible for the free update. PLAION also says new purchasers will receive the updated versions automatically. Its Nintendo Switch answer confirms that the update is limited to PC, Xbox and PlayStation at this stage.
The announcements do not detail a physical-disc upgrade process, subscription entitlement, cross-platform ownership transfer or a separate Mac/Linux rollout. Those should be checked against the eventual storefront instructions rather than assumed from the word “free.”
What changes on PC, PlayStation and Xbox?
Deep Silver’s announcement lists 4K textures, improved animation, higher-quality audio, richer environmental detail and community-led fixes across the update. Its platform-specific additions are:
- PC: DLSS, spatial audio and quality-of-life fixes.
- PS5 and PS5 Pro: native current-gen support, DualSense adaptive triggers and PlayStation Power Saver Mode support. PS5 Pro adds PSSR.
- Xbox Series X|S: native current-gen support, spatial audio, Impulse Triggers, Power Optimized Mode, Xbox Play Anywhere and Xbox Handheld support. The announcement specifically assigns TSR upscaling and anti-aliasing support to Series X.
Console improvements also include lighting, shadows, particles, hardware tessellation and displacement. The publisher has not yet provided a complete per-console performance matrix, so the broad console description should not be read as an identical specification for every Series S mode.
Native 4K/60 and upscaled 4K/120 are different
The announced console targets are true 4K at 60 FPS and upscaled 4K at 120 FPS, with a compatible monitor or television required for the faster mode. “Upscaled 4K/120” describes reconstruction to the output resolution; it does not mean native 4K rendering at 120 FPS.
These are publisher-announced modes, rather than independently measured performance results. For the terminology, our PSSR and QSSR explainer covers reconstruction and its relationship to rendering resolution.
What remains for launch-day patch notes?
The FAQ explicitly rules out ray-tracing support and a move to the current version of the 4A Engine. Full technical patch notes and platform details are due at launch. Download sizes, exact storefront installation steps and measured performance remain open.
Deep Silver says the Metro franchise has sold 50 million copies worldwide. That is a franchise-wide sales claim, not 50 million Redux sales or unique players. The publisher frames the update as a way to revisit the earlier games before Metro 2039, currently listed for February 4, 2027 in its official news index.
