Witch on the Holy Night Gets Worldwide Cinema Dates — US, UK and Sweden Set for January 29
Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment have set the international theatrical rollout for ufotable's Witch on the Holy Night, following its November 20 Japan premiere. Here's the full country-by-country schedule.

Witch on the Holy Night premieres in Japan on November 20, 2026, and Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment have now confirmed exactly when the ufotable film reaches theaters everywhere else. The international rollout starts January 21, 2027, and rolls out in stages across more than 25 countries through early February — but not every region gets the same date, and the announcement is specific about which regions get an English dub versus subtitles only.
Japan First, Then a Staged International Rollout
Japan’s November 20 premiere was set back in July, distributed there by Aniplex alongside TYPE-MOON. The international release is a separate rollout handled by Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment, beginning more than two months after Japan and unfolding across six separate waves rather than a single worldwide day.
The Full International Schedule
| Date | Countries/Regions |
|---|---|
| January 21, 2027 | Saudi Arabia, UAE |
| January 26, 2027 | Austria, Germany, German-speaking Switzerland |
| January 27, 2027 | France, Belgium, French-speaking Switzerland |
| January 28, 2027 | Mexico, Brazil, Chile, Central America, Ecuador, Colombia, Bolivia, Peru, Italy, Denmark, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Italian-speaking Switzerland, Australia, New Zealand |
| January 29, 2027 | US, Canada, UK, Ireland, Finland, Poland, Sweden, India |
| February 5, 2027 | Spain, Kazakhstan |
This is the complete confirmed list — Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures haven’t announced dates for every country worldwide, only the markets above.
US, Canada, UK and Sweden Land Together on January 29
The January 29 wave is the widest single day in the rollout, grouping North America with the UK, Ireland, Finland, Poland, Sweden and India. For the United States and Canada specifically, Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures have confirmed the film screens exclusively in theaters, presented in Japanese with English subtitles as well as an English dub.
That dub confirmation is tied specifically to the US/Canada release. The announcement doesn’t state that other January 29 markets — including the UK, Ireland or Sweden — are also getting an English-dubbed version; those screenings should be assumed to run Japanese-with-local-subtitles unless a region-specific format is confirmed separately. Don’t read the North American dub news as applying automatically across Europe.
Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment Are Handling Distribution
Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment are the distributors behind this international theatrical release, working alongside Aniplex, which handles the film in Japan. No streaming date has been announced for any territory — this is a theatrical-only release for now, and Red Reactions isn’t treating a Crunchyroll streaming date as implied just because Crunchyroll is the theatrical distributor. If a streaming window is confirmed later, that’s a separate announcement to watch for.
What the Film Is
Witch on the Holy Night adapts Kinoko Nasu’s 2012 TYPE-MOON visual novel of the same name and is animated by ufotable, the studio behind the Fate franchise’s more recent adaptations. It follows Aoko Aozaki, an apprentice magician navigating life as an ordinary high schooler, ahead of her later appearances elsewhere in TYPE-MOON’s wider Nasuverse.
