Blizzard used its BlizzCon 2026 “What’s Next” panel to confirm the game long rumored as “Classic+” under its real name: World of Warcraft: Forever, a permanent, ongoing vanilla-era WoW experience launching November 4, 2026, with beta access beginning September 17.

What’s Confirmed

  • Official positioning: Blizzard describes Forever as “not a mode, a season, or a new version of Classic” but a third, permanent home for WoW alongside Modern and Classic — “a promise to keep building this world with the community”
  • Global launch: November 4, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. PST
  • Beta runs September 17 through October 21, 2026
  • Level cap: 60, described as staying in place “for the foreseeable future”
  • No flying mounts and no level scaling — a confirmed, permanent design choice
  • Three brand-new zones at launch, plus several overhauled older zones
  • Over 1,000 new quests spanning the full level 1–60 bracket
  • Nine new dungeons
  • Two new raids: Hyjal Summit (20-player) and Barrow Deeps (10-player)
  • One new battleground: Darkspear Islands (15v15)
  • A new playable race, the Skyborne
  • Setting takes place after the events of Warcraft III: Reforged — Forsaken Kingdom and before Molten Core
  • Included with an existing WoW subscription or Game Time — current subscribers get the base Forever content automatically
  • The Skyborne race itself requires purchasing one of three optional upgrade packs

Not “Classic+” — Blizzard’s Own Framing

Before this reveal, years of community speculation about a “Classic+” project — an evolved, actively updated version of vanilla WoW — went by that unofficial name only. Blizzard has never used “Classic+” as a product name, and World of Warcraft: Forever is the actual title. It’s worth being precise about the distinction the studio itself drew onstage: Forever isn’t a Classic season, a limited-time mode, or a fixed expansion with an endpoint — it’s being positioned as a standing, permanent third pillar next to Modern WoW and Classic, one Blizzard says it intends to keep adding to indefinitely.

The New Zones

Blizzard’s own materials describe three brand-new zones at launch, alongside separate overhauls to older parts of the world. The zones detailed so far:

  • Mount Hyjal — a long-requested endgame zone showing the mountain recovering after Archimonde’s defeat, connecting directly into the new Hyjal Summit raid
  • Zephras Isle — a new floating zone built specifically as the Skyborne’s level 1–12 starting experience
  • Riverglades — built for the roughly mid-30s to mid-40s level range, with more than 150 quests

Coverage of the panel has also referenced Shen’dralas, an ancient ruined area between Mulgore and Desolace tied to Shen’dralar lore and dungeon-style content, though it’s not entirely clear from available reporting whether this counts among the “three new zones” or falls under the separate overhauled-zones category Blizzard mentioned. Treat the three-zone figure as Blizzard’s own confirmed count, and Shen’dralas as an additional, specifically-named area layered on top of it.

The Skyborne: A Race Split Down the Middle

The Skyborne aren’t a straightforward neutral race in the Pandaren mold — their faction choice at character creation determines their class options. Both Horde and Alliance Skyborne can play Warrior, Hunter, Rogue, or Druid (with new Skyborne-specific Druid forms), but Horde Skyborne additionally get Shaman while Alliance Skyborne get Mage instead. They originate from Zephras Isle, their dedicated starting zone.

Unlike the rest of Forever’s base content, playing as a Skyborne isn’t included with a standard subscription — it requires purchasing one of Blizzard’s three upgrade packs.

Visual Options and Progression Philosophy

Forever ships with both HD and Standard-Definition character model options, letting players choose modern visuals or restore the original vanilla look — with restored classic animations even on HD models — alongside separate Modern and Classic visual presets more broadly, plus official gamepad support. On design philosophy, Blizzard has been explicit that Forever is built around Azeroth itself as the draw, not a single heroic main-character narrative: leveling is framed as “just as important as endgame,” with the studio’s own language emphasizing that players “carve their own paths” rather than following one linear story to a fixed destination.

Access, Packs, and Pricing

The core Forever experience is included with an active WoW subscription or Game Time — existing subscribers don’t need to buy anything extra to play the base game. Three optional pre-purchase packs unlock the Skyborne race and other bonuses:

  • Skyborne Heroic Pack — $29.99: Skyborne race access, Zephras Isle starting experience, Early Name Reservation, a mount, transmog and cosmetic items, and one Invite-a-Friend code
  • Skyborne Epic Pack — $59.99: everything in the Heroic Pack, plus beta access, 30 days of Game Time, additional cosmetics, and two more Invite-a-Friend codes
  • Warcraft Forever Collection — $79.99: everything in the Epic Pack, plus Warcraft III: Reforged and its new Forsaken Kingdom campaign, available for a limited time through January 11, 2027

Early name reservation for Skyborne characters opens October 27 through November 3, 2026, on a first-come basis, ahead of the November 4 launch.

What This Doesn’t Confirm

Blizzard hasn’t detailed a longer-term content cadence beyond this launch window, hasn’t specified exactly which older zones are being overhauled beyond the names reported so far, and hasn’t clarified whether Shen’dralas is one of the “three new zones” or a separate addition. Nothing here should be read as confirming any previously leaked or datamined “Project Camelot” feature that Blizzard itself hasn’t stated — treat this article’s list as the ceiling of what’s actually been announced, not a preview of everything the leaks once claimed.

Bottom Line

World of Warcraft: Forever is a real, dated, and detailed product: launching November 4, 2026, with beta from September 17, a permanent level-60 vanilla-era world with no flying or level scaling, three new zones, nine dungeons, two raids, a battleground, and the faction-locked Skyborne race gated behind an optional purchase. It’s included with existing subscriptions at its base tier, and Blizzard has framed it as a standing addition to WoW’s lineup rather than a limited-time event.
