Season 2 of City of God: The Fight Rages On premieres Sunday, November 8, 2026, on HBO Latino in the United States, with global HBO Max streaming announced by HBO. The six-episode season continues the television follow-up to the 2002 film; it is not a new City of God 2 movie.

HBO’s October 8 press release also sets an earlier festival screening. Those two dates refer to different kinds of access.

October 9 is the festival premiere; November 8 is the TV debut

The first episode is scheduled to screen at Cine Odeon on October 9, during the 28th Rio Film Festival. HBO describes that event as the season’s world premiere, with members of the creative team and cast attending.

The public broadcast and streaming announcement is for November 8. The festival screening does not make the entire season available to stream in October.

HBO has not provided a complete episode-by-episode release calendar in this announcement. Six episodes is confirmed; a weekly schedule or an all-at-once drop should not be inferred from that number.

Where can you watch Season 2?

The U.S. announcement names HBO Latino for broadcast and HBO Max for global streaming. A separate WBD regional announcement confirms November 8 availability in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Luxembourg and Liechtenstein.

For Sweden, the global wording does not independently verify a local Season 2 listing, subtitle options or an exact unlock time. Those local details remain unverified. Check your HBO Max catalog nearer the premiere rather than treating another country’s listing as a Swedish launch schedule.

The Red Reactions release calendar records the announced season-premiere date with that regional distinction.

How does it connect to the original film?

HBO explicitly identifies the O2 Filmes production as a continuation of the 2002 City of God film. Its first television season debuted in 2024.

The release relationship is therefore 2002 film → 2024 Season 1 → 2026 Season 2. Viewers searching for a film sequel should look for the series title The Fight Rages On, rather than expecting a new theatrical feature under this announcement.

There is also a direct returning-performer connection: Matheus Nachtergaele reprises Cenoura, the role he played in the original film.

Who returns, and what is the new season about?

Alongside Nachtergaele, HBO names returning performers Alexandre Rodrigues, Roberta Rodrigues, Sabrina Rosa, Andréia Horta and Luellem de Castro, among others.

HBO’s synopsis describes a struggle for control of the community, with three linked strands: councilwoman Berenice, played by Roberta Rodrigues, confronts corruption and militia influence; lawyer Jerusa, played by Andréia Horta, seeks revenge; and Leka, played by Luellem de Castro, uses music and cultural activities to bring residents together.

Those are the broadcaster’s announced story premises, rather than impressions from an advance viewing. The season was filmed in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. HBO credits Aly Muritiba as director, Andrea Barata Ribeiro and Fernando Meirelles as producers, and Maíra Oliveira and Paulo Lins as leaders of the writers’ room.
