Far Cry FX Series Adds Brendan Gleeson, Jennifer Jason Leigh and Five New Cast Members

FX’s Far Cry anthology series added five new cast members on September 17: Brendan Gleeson, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Hamish Linklater, Sam Spruell, and Jamie Demetriou. The Five New Additions

Ubisoft’s own announcement gives each actor’s specific credentials rather than a bare name list. Brendan Gleeson won an Emmy for playing Winston Churchill in Into the Storm and was nominated for an Oscar, Golden Globe, and BAFTA for The Banshees of Inisherin. Jennifer Jason Leigh was Oscar-nominated for Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight and has prior FX experience through Fargo. Hamish Linklater earned an Emmy nomination for Apple TV+’s Widow’s Bay and appeared in Amazon’s Gen V. Sam Spruell recently appeared in HBO’s A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms and has an upcoming role in Alien: Earth Season 2. Jamie Demetriou has won multiple BAFTAs for his comedy Stath Lets Flats and is set to play Mr. Collins in Netflix’s upcoming Pride and Prejudice adaptation.

Three of the five have worked with showrunner Noah Hawley before: Leigh and Spruell both appeared in Fargo Season 5, and Linklater starred in Hawley’s Legion. That overlap is notable but not unusual — Hawley has a documented pattern of reusing actors across his anthology projects.

Who They’re Joining

The five new names join a previously announced cast of Rob Mac, Lizzy Caplan, and Steve Buscemi. Mac — creator of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and an executive producer on Welcome to Wrexham — is also set to star in the series, and co-created it with Hawley. Caplan’s casting was announced in June; Ubisoft’s material at the time confirmed her character details were being kept under wraps, and that remains true of everyone announced since, including this week’s five additions. No character names or role descriptions have been published for any cast member.

What’s Actually Confirmed About the Format

Far Cry is being built as an anthology in the model of Hawley’s Fargo: each season is set in a new location with a new cast, rather than following one continuous story or adapting a specific Far Cry game’s plot. Ubisoft’s own description calls it “an original story,” and no reporting so far ties Season 1 specifically to any existing Far Cry game setting or storyline — treat any such claim as speculation until Ubisoft or FX names one directly. The series streams on FX and Hulu domestically, with Disney+ handling international distribution, per Ubisoft’s own material from Caplan’s casting announcement in June.

Noah Hawley executive produces through his 26 Keys banner; Mac produces through More Better Productions. Ubisoft Film & Television’s Gerard Guillemot, Margaret Boykin, and Austin Dill also executive produce, alongside several additional producers credited on the Ubisoft release.

Production Status

Production on the series began September 14, 2026, based on a behind-the-scenes clapperboard image bearing Hawley’s name that circulated that week. FX and Ubisoft haven’t announced an episode count, filming locations, or a premiere date. Any specific release window — including a possible 2027 date some outlets have floated — is not something FX or Ubisoft has confirmed; treat it as speculation tied to the recency of the production start rather than an announced target.
