Futurama Season 15 Hasn't Been Ordered, but Three Hulu Specials Are Coming

Futurama has no regular Season 15 order at present. That does not mean its next stories have been canceled: three extended Hulu specials are already in production, with the first planned for 2027. Matt Groening told Variety after the Season 14 finale that there are no current plans for another regular run, while discussing the specials and the team’s hope to make more episodes later.

Is Futurama Canceled Again?

The accurate answer is narrower than a simple yes. Season 14 has ended, and Hulu has not ordered a regular fifteenth season. But the streamer has ordered three more Futurama stories. Describing the series as permanently over would ignore that confirmed work; saying Season 15 was canceled would suggest an order existed and was withdrawn.

The distinction is familiar territory for Futurama. Its Fox run ended in 2003, Comedy Central brought it back before another ending in 2013, and Hulu revived it in 2023. Groening told Variety that the writers, cast and animators would like to continue beyond the specials. That is a statement of creative interest, not a new Hulu renewal.

What Are the Three XXXL Specials?

Hulu greenlit three supersized specials, described by the creative team as “XXXL-Sized,” at San Diego Comic-Con. Variety’s order report said the extended stories were in production and would begin arriving in 2027. Neither Hulu nor the producers have provided an exact runtime for them.

The first is Xmas-themed, and Groening has since said Robot Santa will be involved. He also teased payoffs to long-running questions across the specials, but did not identify the questions or reveal the plots of the other two. There is no confirmed title, exact premiere date or trailer for the first special yet. Its Xmas subject does not establish a Christmas Day or December release.

Will There Be a Season 15 After the Specials?

That remains unknown. Groening’s comments leave the possibility open, but Hulu has announced the three specials rather than a further regular season. A formal Season 15 order, more specials, or a final end to the franchise would each require a new announcement.

For now, the dependable status is straightforward: Season 14 is complete; Season 15 is unconfirmed; three new specials are on the way.
