Lawrence Lamont is set to direct Last Friday, with Ice Cube writing, producing and attached to star, according to The Hollywood Reporter’s October 27 report. The director appointment advances New Line’s fourth Friday feature, but does not establish a release date or a completed cast.

What has changed for Last Friday?

Lamont’s attachment is the new development. Ice Cube’s return had already taken a significant step in April 2025, when Variety confirmed his deal to write and star.

THR now also names Bob Teitel and CubeVision’s Michael Gruber as producers, with Jeff Kwatinetz executive producing.

Why is One of Them Days the relevant credit?

Lamont directed One of Them Days (2025), the comedy starring Keke Palmer and SZA. Sony’s official synopsis follows two best friends and roommates racing to avoid eviction after their rent money is spent.

The Los Angeles buddy-comedy setting gives the two projects a clear connection. Last Friday’s own plot has not been detailed in the director report.

Are Chris Tucker and Mike Epps confirmed?

The director report does not announce a deal for either actor. Familiar names and earlier franchise roles should not be treated as signed casting for this film.

Ice Cube’s official Friday page identifies him as Craig and Chris Tucker as Smokey in the 1995 original. The archival image above shows that earlier film; Tucker’s presence in it is not evidence that he has joined Last Friday.

The feature-film sequence so far is:

  1. Friday (1995)
  2. Next Friday (2000)
  3. Friday After Next (2002)

Last Friday is the planned fourth feature, rather than a remake of the first film.

Is there a release date, filming start or trailer?

No verified theatrical day, country-specific release schedule or streaming platform is established by this announcement. THR describes a planned Southern California shoot, which should not be read as confirmation that cameras are already rolling.

No official Last Friday trailer or new sequel artwork was verified for this report.
