One Piece is heading back to theaters — twice.

The franchise announced ONE PIECE FILM GOD VALLEY for summer 2027 in Japan, followed by ONE PIECE FILM BAAD in 2029. Both were revealed on August 23 immediately after the main stage at ONE PIECE DAY ’26 at Makuhari Messe in Chiba.

The official One Piece announcement gives the two release windows but stops well short of revealing full plots, casts or staff. That matters, especially for God Valley: the title is loaded with manga history, but the title alone should not be treated as confirmation of exactly how much of that story the film will adapt.

Why One Piece Film God Valley is such a big title

God Valley is the first new One Piece theatrical film since One Piece Film Red opened in Japan in August 2022. The timing also places it directly inside the manga’s 30th anniversary year. Eiichiro Oda’s series began serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump on July 22, 1997, making July 22, 2027 the official 30-year milestone.

The name itself is enough to make this announcement unusually important. God Valley is tied to one of the most consequential incidents in One Piece history, involving figures such as Gol D. Roger, Monkey D. Garp and Rocks D. Xebec. Famitsu notes that the newly released super teaser points toward those central figures, but the announcement still does not provide a conventional synopsis or spell out the film’s full narrative scope.

That distinction is worth keeping. There is a big difference between a movie being titled God Valley and the studio already confirming every manga event, character or revelation that fans associate with the incident.

For now, there is no exact Japanese release date beyond summer 2027, and no international theatrical date has been announced.

One Piece Film BAAD is still a mystery

The second announcement is even harder to read.

ONE PIECE FILM BAAD is scheduled for 2029, the same year the TV anime celebrates its own 30th anniversary. The anime premiered in Japan on October 20, 1999, putting its 30-year anniversary on October 20, 2029.

The most concrete creative detail revealed so far is the title image itself. Japanese coverage from ORICON News and Cinema Today reports that Eiichiro Oda personally drew the BAAD title lettering shown during the announcement.

What “BAAD” means has not been explained. The lettering gives the final D unusual visual emphasis, but turning that into a story theory would be speculation at this stage. There is no announced synopsis, director, cast or stated connection between BAAD and God Valley beyond the fact that both films were revealed together.

Five years after Film Red

The double announcement ends a long theatrical gap for the franchise. Film Red was released in Japan on August 6, 2022 and became the biggest One Piece movie at the Japanese box office, finishing above ¥20 billion domestically after its original run and later encore screenings.

One detail in some early coverage is worth correcting: Film Red was officially described by Toei Animation as the franchise’s 15th film. That means God Valley and BAAD would follow as the 16th and 17th theatrical films if the numbering continues normally — not the 15th and 16th.

For now, the useful facts are simpler than the speculation: God Valley arrives in Japan in summer 2027, BAAD follows in 2029, and neither film has an announced international release date yet.

The titles alone give One Piece fans plenty to argue about. The actual story details can wait until Toei and the official One Piece team reveal them.
