A RuneScape animated series is in early development, with Jagex, Lyrical Animation and creator Charlie “MoistCr1TiKaL” White working together to bring the game’s world to the screen. Jagex announced the project on October 3, 2026, during RuneFest in Birmingham, UK.

The official announcement says Lyrical Animation will produce alongside White’s Meatier Productions. Jagex CEO Jon Bellamy revealed the project following the Old School RuneScape keynote.

What does the 2027 date mean?

2027 is when further information is expected, not an announced premiere year. Jagex explicitly describes development as being at an early stage. There is no release date or confirmed streaming service, broadcaster or other distributor.

The announcement does not specify an episode count, runtime, cast, age rating or animation technique. No official series trailer has been verified.

What part of RuneScape is being adapted?

The project will explore Gielinor, the medieval fantasy world of RuneScape. First released in 2001, the game lets players pursue quests, combat, exploration and cooperative adventures.

Jagex has not named the characters, regions or quests that will form the animated story. The announcement’s position after the Old School keynote does not establish that the series exclusively adapts that version of the game.

The animated adaptation is separate from the new RuneScape MMO currently using the working title RS4.
