Thief: The Dark Project Remastered launches on December 3, 2026, with the new campaign The Tarnished Mirror included at launch. Nightdive Studios, Eidos-Montréal and Atari announced the date on November 2. The release combines the original 1998 stealth game, the additional content from Thief Gold and a new story linking Garrett’s first two adventures.

Which platforms are confirmed?

The announcement names PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch, along with Xbox Play Anywhere support. On PC, the listed stores are Steam, Epic Games Store and GOG.

Nintendo Switch owners can upgrade to the Switch 2 Edition for free, according to the announcement. That makes the original Switch version a different proposition from a purchase that requires paying for a separate upgrade pack. It does not mean buying on one unrelated console platform grants a copy on another.

What is The Tarnished Mirror?

The Tarnished Mirror is a new, self-contained campaign from the creators of Thief: The Black Parade. Atari describes its place in the chronology as a bridge between The Dark Project and Thief II: The Metal Age.

The publisher promises new factions, environments and enemies, with a stronger turn toward Lovecraftian horror. Those are announced features, rather than findings from a finished-game review. The campaign is part of the launch package; it is not being announced here as a separate purchase or a later release.

What changes in the remaster?

Nightdive is rebuilding the presentation using its KEX Engine. The package retains the extra missions and content from the 1999 Thief Gold release, alongside changes to textures, models and animation.

Atari also lists a weapon-and-item wheel and a mission selector. Its product page specifies PC-only support for custom campaigns. Players comparing versions should keep that distinction separate from the new campaign supplied with the game itself.

For newcomers, the underlying distinction is stealth: Garrett’s tools, shadows and the sound of nearby guards matter more than treating each encounter as a direct fight. For returning players, the clearest additions to check are the new campaign and the interface changes. Neither announcement establishes identical performance across every platform.

The practical date to remember is December 3. Exact unlock times have not been specified in the sources checked, so there is no confirmed worldwide midnight schedule to convert into local time zones.
