Activision Plans a New Call of Duty Subseries, Without a Confirmed Date
Activision's Tyler Bahl says a future Call of Duty title will start a new sub-franchise. His interview confirms groundwork, while 2027 remains reported timing.

Activision has plans for a future Call of Duty title to begin a new sub-franchise, chief marketing officer Tyler Bahl told The Game Business in an October 15 interview. He said groundwork had already been laid, but his cited remarks do not confirm a 2027 launch.
The distinction matters because coverage has attached next year’s date to the project. A publisher describing a future direction and sources identifying a particular annual release are different kinds of evidence.
What Bahl actually confirmed
Bahl described “a future title” becoming a new sub-franchise. In Call of Duty terms, that points to another branch of the series alongside established names such as Modern Warfare and Black Ops. He did not give that future branch a public name in the interview.
He linked the discussion to Activision’s response to consecutive Modern Warfare and Black Ops sequels. According to Bahl, players wanted a fresher experience and a stronger change in tone. That is the publisher’s account of the feedback, rather than a claim that every player shares the same view.
His comments establish planning and groundwork. They do not amount to a reveal of the game’s setting, modes or characters.
Is the new subseries Call of Duty 2027?
Dexerto’s October 15 report says CharlieIntel’s sources identify 2027. That is reported timing, not a release year supplied by Bahl in the original interview.
| Question | What the evidence establishes |
|---|---|
| Is a new branch planned? | Yes: Bahl says a future title will be a new sub-franchise and groundwork exists. |
| Is 2027 publisher-confirmed? | No: that timing comes from the separately attributed source report. |
| Have its title and developer been announced here? | Neither is identified in Bahl’s cited remarks. |
| Are platforms or a reveal date confirmed? | Not by this interview. |
A familiar character’s possible return is also a separate question from whether a game uses a new subseries name. The remarks do not provide a cast list or establish that existing characters are excluded.
How Modern Warfare 4 fits in
Modern Warfare 4 remains the separately announced October 23, 2026 release. The COD Intel Team’s official launch notice concerns that named game, rather than the unnamed future project.
Its purchase and subscription arrangements are covered in our Modern Warfare 4 Game Pass guide. In particular, Holiday 2027 for MW4’s later Game Pass inclusion is another separate milestone, not evidence for when a new subseries will launch.
The artwork above likewise belongs to MW4. Until Activision supplies a name, dated announcement or project-specific assets, those details remain open for the future title.
