Avatar Kuruk: Wave of Chaos — Paramount+ Orders a New Animated Prequel
Paramount+ has ordered Avatar Kuruk: Wave of Chaos. Here is the teenage Avatar’s premise, creative team and how it differs from Seven Havens.

Paramount+ has ordered Avatar Kuruk: Wave of Chaos, an animated prequel following a teenage Water Tribe Avatar. The announcement came at New York Comic Con on October 9, 2026. No premiere date or release window has been announced.
The new series gives Kuruk his own journey rather than continuing the story of the next Avatar. Reuters’ report of the announcement identifies a young, rebellious lead whose travels bring him into contact with pirates and unruly spirits. His companion is a koalaotter named Nikik.
Who is Avatar Kuruk?
For viewers who know Aang and Korra, the useful starting point is that Kuruk is an earlier incarnation of the same Avatar cycle. He precedes Kyoshi. The series therefore moves backward through the franchise’s history, rather than introducing Aang’s or Korra’s successor.
That distinction also changes how to approach the story. Kuruk’s later reputation and the events of his adulthood are not a substitute for a synopsis of this teenage adventure. An established destination does not tell us which parts of the journey the adaptation will dramatize, or how quickly it will reach them. Viewers can understand the announcement without reading a spoiler-filled account of his later life.
What is Wave of Chaos about?
The announced premise follows an unconventional young Avatar learning the four elements while travelling. Nikik accompanies him, and an angry teacher is part of the setup alongside the pirates and spirits.
That provides a clear outline: an adventure about an Avatar still learning what the role requires. It does not yet establish a principal villain, an episode-by-episode route or a connection between every spirit in the new series and events in earlier Avatar stories. Those details need further announcements or the series itself.
Creative team and the first look
Entertainment Weekly’s first-look report names franchise co-creator Bryan Konietzko as showrunner and describes Kuruk as 14. The project comes from Avatar Studios and Nickelodeon Animation for Paramount+.
The material released so far includes character and development artwork. Paramount’s press gallery identifies Kuruk and Nikik among its assets. These drawings introduce the characters’ visual direction; they should not be mistaken for finished episode footage or evidence that a full trailer has been released.
How is it different from Seven Havens?
Wave of Chaos and Avatar: Seven Havens are separate series. The same NYCC panel also brought a Books 3 and 4 renewal announcement for Seven Havens. Those additional books belong to Seven Havens, not to Kuruk’s newly announced show.
Readers following that production can find the separate details in our Avatar: Seven Havens trailer guide. A release date, cast announcement or season order for one project should not be carried across to the other.
When will Avatar Kuruk premiere?
There is no confirmed date, year or release window in the announcement checked for this article. Paramount+ is the announced destination, but a territory-specific launch schedule has not been established here. Voice casting and the number of episodes also remain unannounced in the verified material.
For now, the confirmed news is the series order, its teenage Kuruk premise, its creative leadership and its first-look art. A more detailed viewing guide will depend on a dated release announcement and further production information.
