The Guy She Was Interested In Wasn’t a Guy at All begins broadcasting in Japan on January 8, 2027. The CloverWorks anime adapts Sumiko Arai’s manga, with the newly announced schedule placing it in Nippon TV’s Friday anime slot at 11 p.m. Japan Standard Time.

The date is confirmed on the official anime website. It is a Japanese television premiere, not a confirmed simultaneous start in every country. International streaming availability and local release times need to be checked separately.

What is the story about?

Aya Osawa is drawn to a black-clad record-store employee whose style and musical taste seem to match her own. The person she assumes is a guy is actually Mitsuki Koga, a girl from her school.

That mistaken impression is the starting premise, rather than a late-story spoiler. It gives the romance two connected settings: the record store, where music makes conversation possible, and school, where Aya and Mitsuki already share a different kind of proximity.

For a newcomer, the important appeal is the way a shared interest creates an opening between people who might otherwise struggle to connect. The adaptation’s music, performances and pacing will determine how that connection works on screen. A trailer can introduce those choices, but it cannot establish the quality of the complete series before release.

Who is behind the anime?

The announced production team is Masashi Ishihama as director, Rino Yamasaki on series composition and Kanna Hirayama on character design, with animation production by CloverWorks.

Anime Trending’s October 8 report also identifies Kosuke Noma and Takayuki “Kojiro” Sasaki as music composers. The official site lists Nirvana’s “Breed” as the opening theme.

The music choice is especially relevant to a premise built around discovering another person through records. It should not, however, be expanded into an unannounced list of licensed songs or a promise about the soundtrack in every territory.

Who voices Aya and Mitsuki?

Akari Kito voices Aya Osawa, while Mariya Ise voices Mitsuki Koga. The additional announced cast includes Kenjiro Tsuda as Joe, Tasuku Hatanaka as Narita, Yurina Amami as Chizuru, Fairouz Ai as Mao and Maiko Nomura as Kanna.

Those are the Japanese voice credits. No English dub cast or dub launch date is established by the sources checked here.

Where can you watch the trailer?

The official website links to the first Japanese promotional video. Anime Trending also links to Crunchyroll’s English-subtitled trailer, released around its NYCC showcase.

These are trailer links rather than an uploaded episode. Readers can use the subtitled version to follow the premise without treating trailer availability as proof that the series itself is licensed everywhere.

Will it stream internationally on January 8?

Anime Trending reports a Crunchyroll release in selected countries and territories. That does not establish a universal January 8 streaming launch, a Swedish release time or worldwide rights.

For planning purposes, the confirmed entry is January 8, 2027 — Japan, Nippon TV, 23:00 JST. A local streaming listing will be needed before attaching that same date to another market. Episode count and the number of manga volumes being adapted are also not established in the verified announcement.
