Jeff Daniels is set to play Raymond Lesko in Bannerman, the AMC Studios and Netflix spy drama based on John R. Maxim’s novels, according to Deadline’s October 19 report. He is the first actor reported cast in the series, but he is not playing the title character, Paul Bannerman.

The casting adds a face to a project that had already received its greenlight. A premiere date has not been announced in the checked reports.

Who is Raymond Lesko?

Deadline describes Lesko as a former NYPD detective now working in hotel security. He was forced off the police force after taking revenge for the murder of his former partner, a loss that continues to haunt him.

His daughter’s relationship draws him back into action: she is dating a man Lesko suspects may be more dangerous than he is. That makes the ex-cop a central complication for the story’s retired operatives, rather than another name for its lead spy.

Daniels’ earlier television leads include The Newsroom, Godless, American Rust and A Man in Full, as Deadline notes. The new report identifies his Bannerman role without supplying a complete cast or a filming timetable.

What is Bannerman about, and who is making it?

The series follows Paul Bannerman, a covert operative who persuades a group of assassins to leave espionage behind for suburban lives in Connecticut. Enemies, government suspicion and habits carried over from their former work make retirement difficult.

That premise accompanied TheWrap’s August 20 greenlight report. It comes from Maxim’s spy novels; the cover above identifies one of those books, rather than a newly released television image.

Craig Silverstein writes and serves as showrunner, while Shane Black co-wrote the first episode and will direct the first two. They executive produce alongside Greg Nicotero and Brian Witten. AMC Studios leads the co-production with Netflix.

These creative attachments predate Daniels’ casting. AMC’s April announcement concerned an exploratory writers’ room; it should not be confused with the subsequent greenlight or the October casting news.

Where will Bannerman be available?

Deadline’s October account repeats the territory plan outlined in August:

TerritoryAnnounced distribution plan
United States and CanadaAMC premieres the series; Netflix follows 90 days after the season finale airs on AMC.
Australia, New Zealand and SpainAMC and Netflix jointly premiere each episode.
Other territoriesNetflix carries the series exclusively under the reported agreement.

The US and Canadian delay runs from the AMC finale, not the season premiere. These arrangements describe distribution windows, not an announced calendar launch in any country.

There is therefore no verified first-episode date to count down to, and the reports do not establish an episode count or an official trailer. Daniels’ casting is the new development; the audience still awaits the series’ dated rollout.
