The project’s full styling, per the Japanese-language announcement, is “Batman x Kamen Rider ZERO-ONE LEGENDS UNITE — 日米ヒーロー、新たなる伝説の始まり —,” which translates roughly to “Japan-US Heroes, the Beginning of a New Legend.” It was revealed September 19, 2026, at the “Rule the Night” Batman Day special fan event in Tokyo, involving DC Comics, Toei, Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products and Bandai.

What’s confirmed: an original comic is being created featuring Batman and Kamen Rider Zero-One together, and Bandai is developing related merchandise. First-look collaboration artwork was unveiled at the event, showing both characters together. What isn’t confirmed: a release date, whether it’s a one-shot or ongoing series, issue count, plot, or a full merchandise lineup. Why Kamen Rider Zero-One?

Toei producer Shinichiro Shirakura addressed the pairing directly at the event, calling it a historic moment (“歴史的事件だ” — “a historic incident/event”). Per his own comments, Shirakura pointed to a specific parallel between the two heroes’ civilian identities: Bruce Wayne runs Wayne Enterprises, and Kamen Rider Zero-One’s Aruto Hiden runs the AI company Hiden Intelligence — both are, in Shirakura’s framing, young heads of major corporations leading double lives. That’s the connection he cited for selecting Zero-One specifically, rather than any other Kamen Rider era, as Batman’s crossover partner.

Shirakura also placed the announcement in a longer franchise history: the original 1971 Kamen Rider series featured Shocker monsters explicitly modeled on American pop-culture figures, including kaijin designed after Batman and Spider-Man. Toei later made an official Spider-Man tokusatsu series in 1978 — but, per Shirakura, a Batman collaboration had never happened until now. That’s a claim about Kamen Rider specifically never crossing over with Batman before, not a claim that this is Batman’s first crossover of any kind; DC has paired Batman with outside properties before, including Spawn, Alien and Predator in past comics.

Confirmed Creative Team

Writer Kenny Porter — who has previous DC work on titles including Batman: Urban Legends, DC: Mech and Superboy: The Man of Tomorrow — is attached to script the comic. Artist tokitokoro, a Japanese illustrator, is handling art. Neither DC nor Toei has detailed a release date or format for their work beyond the confirmation that the comic is in development.
