Coral Island Heads to Switch 2 This Winter as Update 1.4 Lets Kids Grow Up
Stairway confirms Coral Island for Switch 2 alongside Kids Grow Up. Original Switch backers must choose a replacement platform by November 5, 2026.

Coral Island is coming to Nintendo Switch 2 this winter, alongside version 1.4, Kids Grow Up. Stairway Games’ October 16 announcement pairs a new Nintendo version with a family-focused update that lets children progress from babies to teenagers.
There is also a deadline for a specific group of players: Kickstarter backers who selected the original Nintendo Switch version must confirm a replacement platform by November 5, 2026. That original Switch port will not be released. Backers who do not respond will receive a Steam key, according to the studio’s platform-selection instructions.
Which Nintendo system is getting Coral Island?
Nintendo Switch 2 is the announced platform. The original Nintendo Switch is not. Stairway cites platform and performance limitations for abandoning the earlier port.
The new version is planned for the developer’s winter 2026 window. An exact release day, price and complete list of regional eShop availability have not been announced in the checked material. The winter wording should not be converted into a particular December date or a confirmed first-quarter 2027 launch.
Coral Island is already available on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The Switch 2 announcement concerns a future version, while Kids Grow Up is the next major game update.

The October 16 upload is from the official Coral Island channel and is linked directly in Stairway’s announcement.
What changes when kids grow up?
Version 1.4 adds four child life stages: baby, toddler, school-age and teenager. School-age children will be around the age of existing young townspeople such as Zoe. As children grow, their interests can include music, sports, baking or gaming, with those interests feeding into their teenage personalities and interactions.
The update also adds spouse dialogue and family scenes about parenthood. Existing neighborhood children, including Archie, will grow into teenagers too, bringing new stories and conversations rather than leaving the rest of town unchanged as the player’s family ages.
One new scene draws on Tedak Siten, a Javanese tradition celebrating a child’s first steps onto the ground. Stairway describes it as an inspiration familiar to many of its developers; that description does not establish every detail of how the ceremony will be represented in play.
What must original Switch backers do by November 5?
Stairway says it is sending a BackerKit survey dated October 16, 2026 to backers who originally chose Nintendo Switch. The replacement choices are Nintendo Switch 2, Steam, PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S. Selecting a Switch 2 key for the pledge reward carries no extra cost.
- Respond by November 5, 2026 with the preferred platform.
- No response means a Steam key, under the studio’s stated default.
- Extra game copies bought as pledge add-ons will normally use the same platform as the main reward.
- To request different platforms for those add-on copies, contact [email protected] by November 5, as the announcement instructs.
Check the choice carefully before submitting. Stairway says it buys console keys individually and may be unable to change a selection once a key has been ordered. These arrangements concern eligible pledge rewards; they are not a free upgrade offer for every owner of a Nintendo console or a statement of general refund rights.
Co-op, controller support and other 1.4 additions
The announcement supports solo play and multiplayer for up to four players, with cross-play across supported platforms. It does not promise cross-save or identify every possible platform pairing, so those should remain separate questions when planning a co-op group.
Stairway also lists Switch 2 HD Rumble, PS5 DualSense haptics and other platform-specific vibration support. Cooking filters will help find recipes by buffs or villagers’ gift preferences. Fishing bobbers can be unlocked through Fishing Mastery and bought at the Beach Shack, while lighting and other quality-of-life changes are also planned.
The studio says the precise date and a fuller update overview will follow closer to launch. Our release calendar retains the announced seasonal window; it does not turn that window into a confirmed worldwide launch day.
