Ryan Murphy Says a Glee Reboot Script Exists — What Is Actually Confirmed?

Ryan Murphy says a script for a Glee reboot has been written, and he has talked to members of the original cast about the idea. That is a concrete development step, but it is not a green light: no network or streaming service has announced a series order, and there is no release date or confirmed returning cast.

Murphy discussed the project in a Good Morning America interview. Variety reports that he wrote the script with original co-creators Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan, and that roughly ten original cast members have been part of conversations. Interest in a conversation is not a casting deal. Variety also reports that the cast members discussed had not yet read the script.

Is the Glee reboot happening?

It is in development, based on Murphy’s account. A script and cast discussions show that the creators are exploring a return, but they do not establish a production schedule, a buyer or a premiere. Murphy has not publicly laid out the reboot’s setting or story in sufficient detail to say whether it follows the original characters, introduces a new class, or combines both.
