Green Lantern: Doomed Cosmos begins January 20, 2027, as a six-issue Elseworlds series from writer Dan Watters and artist Kyle Hotz. DC’s announcement places Hal Jordan inside an alternate universe where humanity is a conquering galactic power.

This Hal was a soldier of the Empire of Humanity. After Oliver Queen betrays him and leaves him for dead, the Green Lantern Corps rescues and deprograms him. He becomes its only human warrior against his former side. That is the forthcoming story’s premise, not a change to mainline Hal Jordan’s history.

Is this The Dying of the Light or Lanterns?

No. The projects have different titles and creative teams. Our earlier coverage of Green Lantern: The Dying of the Light concerns the separate Jason Aaron and Tirso project. The Hal Jordan and John Stewart guide for Lanterns follows the screen adaptation’s leads.

The practical distinction is the Elseworlds label on Doomed Cosmos: read its empire, allegiances and character history as this story’s own setup. The premise does not tell readers what will happen in the television series, and the shared Green Lantern name does not make the two comics interchangeable. Look for Doomed Cosmos #1 and the Watters–Hotz credits when following this announcement.
