Magic: The Gathering | Marvel: Darkhold Destiny releases worldwide on April 9, 2027, with prerelease scheduled for April 2–8. Wizards of the Coast’s supernatural Marvel set combines an original story with boosters, Commander decks and Scene Boxes. A companion Marvel comic will begin arriving earlier, with separate digital and print release windows. These dates concern the tabletop products; a digital-game launch schedule needs separate confirmation.

The October 10 Wizards announcement establishes the new fiction collaboration. The Wizards Play Network’s October 9 briefing supplies the prerelease schedule and product counts.

What is Darkhold Destiny’s story?

The official product hub places Dormammu and Hela behind a crisis involving a page of the Darkhold. Their actions break the barriers between realities, unleashing supernatural threats across dimensions. Doctor Strange and Thor are among the characters drawn into the conflict.

Wizards describes this as its first original story collaboration with Marvel. Its narrative team developed the story with Magic in mind, and the cards will help tell that story. Readers should therefore approach it as a newly created Marvel crossover narrative; the announcement does not establish a continuation of a particular MCU film or television storyline.

Which cards and characters have been revealed?

The announcement’s previews identify The Darkhold, Hela, Mistress of Darkness, Magik, Illyana Rasputin, and Gargantos, the Endbringer. These are actual published preview names, alongside the broader story’s Doctor Strange, Thor and Dormammu appearances.

The official Card Image Gallery is the place to follow subsequent reveals. Wizards also labels the displayed card images as digital renderings, so they should not be mistaken for photographs of finished retail cards.

What products are confirmed?

WPN lists the following lineup:

  • Booster Packs and Collector Boosters.
  • Four Commander decks and four Collector’s Edition Commander decks.
  • Two Scene Boxes.
  • A Bundle, an Arcanum Bundle, Draft Night and Prerelease Packs.

The consumer product hub already names the Scene Boxes: Assault on Asgard and Skirmish at the Sanctum, each built around six Borderless Scene cards. The former depicts the story’s conclusion; the latter shows Doctor Strange defending the Sanctum Sanctorum as Bleecker Street descends into chaos.

Those products serve different purposes within the release. Scene Boxes present connected artwork, while Commander decks are sold for Magic’s multiplayer Commander format. The checked announcement does not supply the four decks’ full names or lists, so their colors, individual commanders and card contents should await the appropriate reveals.

When does the companion Marvel comic arrive?

Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly are writing the related Marvel Comics release, which will tell the origin of a new character. Wizards gives two windows:

  • Digital release: February 2027.
  • Print release: April 2027.

These are month-level dates. April 9 belongs to the card set, and should not be attached to the comic without a separate dated listing. The announcement does not name the comic’s artist, the new character, an issue count or exact on-sale days.

How does prerelease differ from launch?

WPN’s product information describes prerelease as players’ first opportunity to explore the set, with packs for building a deck and playing matches. April 2–8 is the scheduled prerelease period; April 9 is the general release date. Readers interested in an event should check a participating local store’s schedule through the official store locator.

The worldwide set date does not guarantee a particular shop’s stock or delivery timing.
