Yona of the Dawn Sequel Confirms PIERROT FILMS as Animation Studio
Yona of the Dawn's anime sequel names PIERROT FILMS as its animation studio. The continuation was announced in 2025; its format and premiere date remain unannounced.

PIERROT FILMS will handle animation production for the Yona of the Dawn anime sequel, the series’ official Japanese account announced on October 20, 2026. The update names the production studio; it does not announce a premiere date.
The continuation itself is older news. Oricon’s October 20 report notes that sequel production had already been announced in December 2025. Today’s development adds a specific production credit to that existing project.
What is PIERROT FILMS?
In its official 2024 introduction, Studio Pierrot describes PIERROT FILMS as a new animation-production brand, operating alongside its existing studio brand. The original Yona television anime was a Studio Pierrot production.
That connects the sequel’s announced studio to the original production company. It does not confirm that every earlier director, designer or other staff member is returning. Nor does the word FILMS establish that this continuation will be a theatrical movie: the new anime’s format still needs its own announcement.
What has actually been confirmed?
| Detail | Current announcement status |
|---|---|
| Anime continuation | Previously announced in December 2025. |
| Animation production | PIERROT FILMS, named October 20, 2026. |
| Release date or premiere window | Not announced in the checked sources. |
| Format and episode count | Not confirmed by this studio announcement. |
| Complete staff and international distribution | Not established here. |
For that reason, anime sequel is the precise description available. A numbered television Season 2, a movie release or a particular streaming deal should not be treated as settled without further official details.
The original anime and the manga date are separate context
Based on Mizuho Kusanagi’s manga, Yona of the Dawn follows a princess whose sheltered royal life gives way to a journey of survival and growth. Its first television adaptation ran for 24 episodes between October 2014 and March 2015, as Anime Trending’s production report recounts.
The image above comes from that original anime’s promotional material. No new sequel scene or key visual is being presented with this report.
Oricon also reports that the manga’s final Japanese collected volume, volume 48, was released on October 20. That is a book publication date, separate from the undated anime continuation. It does not identify which chapters the new adaptation will cover or promise an adaptation through the manga’s ending.
The next useful announcements will be the sequel’s format, creative team and dated rollout. Until then, the confirmed new fact is the PIERROT FILMS production credit.
