Ahsoka showed Ezra Bridger getting home. Marvel’s new Star Wars: Ahsoka — Escape from Thrawn promises the journey it skipped. The five-issue miniseries begins in comic shops on January 20, 2027. It is a companion story about his escape, rather than another adaptation of the TV season.

The missing journey aboard the Chimaera

The Season 1 finale reunites Ezra with Hera Syndulla. The Lucasfilm reveal identifies the gap before that reunion: he stowed away aboard Grand Admiral Thrawn’s flagship, the Chimaera, leaving Peridea.

The announced comic follows that unseen escape. Its synopsis pits Ezra against Captain Enoch, the Nightsisters’ magick and Thrawn while he tries to survive the voyage. These are the advertised threats; no unpublished issue has established his methods or the outcome of any individual confrontation.

Knowing where Ezra eventually arrives does not tell us how he gets there. That distinction is the reason to read this story: for the missing events, rather than a different ending invented for the show.

The creative team: four distinct credits

RoleAnnounced creator
StoryDave Filoni
Comic writerRodney Barnes
Interior artAndrea Di Vito
Issue #1 coverPhil Noto

Filoni’s story credit should not be shortened into a claim that he writes the comic script. Barnes receives the writing credit; Noto’s announced role is the cover, rather than the interior pages.

Issue #1 and Season 2 share a launch date

Lucasfilm’s Season 2 announcement sets the Disney+ premiere for January 20, 2027. Our existing Ahsoka Season 2 teaser and premiere guide covers the TV release separately.

The comic reveal supplies no dates for issues #2–#5, collected edition, digital rollout or translated editions. A comic-shop on-sale date also does not establish Swedish shop stock or an exact Disney+ unlock hour. Check local listings before planning a purchase or viewing session.

Our practical recommendation is to finish Ahsoka Season 1, then read Escape from Thrawn as its issues arrive alongside Season 2. This is an editorial recommendation based on the story’s placement and release timing, not an official canon requirement.

The full miniseries cannot reasonably be treated as homework to finish before the TV premiere when its first issue launches that same day. Lucasfilm calls it a companion; the checked announcement does not instruct viewers to complete it before starting Season 2. Reading it as an optional expansion avoids turning a publication schedule into a viewing barrier.

Readers choosing a comic version of the earlier season should distinguish this title from Marvel’s separate 2024 Star Wars: Ahsoka adaptation. That eight-issue series adapts Season 1’s episodes. Its numbering does not continue into this new five-issue escape story.

The next announced publishing event

Lucasfilm lists its NYCC publishing panel for October 9 at 11 a.m., Room 409. At publication, that event is still ahead; it may provide more information, but no additional dates or announcements should be presumed.

For other releases, browse Comics and our Star Wars franchise hub. The release calendar lists the TV season; it covers movies, TV and games, so the comic does not receive a separate calendar entry.
