The Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 finale leaves D and Capri's fate unresolved. Here's who dies, who survives, what Talia faces and why David's name matters.

The ending of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 does not confirm that D and Capri die. They reunite, face corporate forces and head toward a distant light, but the series cuts away before proving whether they escape or perish. Talia, Weak and Roman survive; Kiril and Kyoko die during the Badlands confrontation. Avida’s death happens earlier. Those are the decisive outcomes, not a promise of another season.
The ten-episode standalone anime arrived on Netflix on October 20, 2026, as CD PROJEKT RED confirmed at launch. The difference between what the finale shows and what it leaves open is crucial to reading its last scene.
What happens in the Edgerunners 2 finale?
Talia turns against her father, Kang Tao executive Kiril, after discovering his responsibility for her mother Avida’s death. The AI construct Capri, installed through a datashard, amplifies the violence of Talia’s pursuit. Her conflict with Kiril spills into the Badlands as corporate forces attempt to eliminate the threat.
Former Arasaka scientist Kyoko intervenes with an electromagnetic pulse device to counter an approaching missile strike. The resulting destruction kills both Kyoko and Kiril, while Talia remains alive. This sequence is described in the Radio Times’ October 20 finale recap and People’s breakdown.
D reaches Talia after the explosion and takes back the chip containing Capri. The two can finally be together again, but their reunion makes them a target for Night City’s megacorporations. Rather than giving them a definitive escape or an unmistakable death scene, the anime ends their story in an image open to interpretation.
Who dies and who survives?
| Character | Outcome shown by the finale |
|---|---|
| D | Reunites with Capri, fights corporate forces; ultimate fate unconfirmed |
| Capri | Reunites with D; ultimate fate unconfirmed |
| Talia | Survives but needs extensive treatment and removal of cyberware |
| Weak Kingsley (King) | Survives and helps Talia begin recovery |
| Roman Carax | Survives and continues filming |
| Kiril | Killed in the Badlands destruction |
| Kyoko | Dies after intervening with the EMP |
| Avida | Killed earlier in the season, before the finale |
The distinction between not seen dying and confirmed alive afterward matters. Talia, Weak and Roman have an epilogue. D and Capri do not. As GamesRadar’s finale analysis also notes, a firm survival claim for the pair would go beyond the ending.
Is D dead? What does the final light mean?
There is no confirmed answer. D abandons the revenge mission that once defined him and chooses a future with Capri. In the last confrontation he appears to fight off corporate pursuers, then moves toward a shining point in the sky. The cut denies the audience a clear arrival, landing or body.
A later remark that D went out with a bang can be read as an epitaph, but it is not proof of a death shown on screen. Equally, the suggestion of a star or a possible flight into space is not confirmation that D and Capri escaped into orbit. Both are interpretations rather than established events.
That uncertainty serves a specific dramatic contrast. D starts as a man driven by what was taken from him; he ends by choosing the person, or AI, he wants to be with. Whether Night City allows that choice to last is the question the closing image refuses to settle. Creator Bartosz Sztybor has said he knows what happens afterward, according to GamesRadar, but he has not publicly resolved D’s fate.
What happens to Talia and Weak?
Talia does not disappear when Capri’s influence is removed. She survives and receives treatment after her ordeal. However, her body is no longer simply restored to the way it was before: the removal of much of her cyberware and the need for rehabilitation make her survival costly and uncertain.
Weak, previously an accomplished edgerunner called King, stays to help. His decision gives the ending a quieter counterpoint to D’s final battle. Roman also lives, and his commitment to recording the people of Night City continues. For who each person was before the finale, our 13-character and voice-cast guide keeps promotional biographies separate from this spoiler-heavy recap.
Is D actually David Martinez from the first season?
No evidence establishes that they are the same person. D’s real first name is revealed as David, recalling original protagonist David Martinez. The series also connects their stories through Arasaka’s interest in people with exceptional cyberware tolerance.
A shared name is a deliberate parallel, not proof that the first season’s David survived, changed identity or returned as D. People and GamesRadar both note the connection without establishing such a resurrection. CD PROJEKT RED has consistently introduced the second series as a standalone story with a new core cast; see our original October 20 release report.
Does the ending choose a canon Cyberpunk 2077 game ending?
No. Although the anime shares the game’s setting and its corporate power struggles, its creators have not selected one of the player’s possible Cyberpunk 2077 endings as definitive. In comments reported by GamesRadar in November 2026, Sztybor describes deliberate coordination with the game’s lore team to avoid choosing one canonical outcome for V.
The show’s own story and the game can inform each other without rewriting each player’s choices. For the publisher-confirmed crossover content, see our Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.5 guide. Our full-trailer coverage documents what was shown before the anime premiered rather than treating preview shots as evidence of the finale.
Frequently asked questions
Does D survive at the end of Edgerunners 2?
Unknown. D is last seen moving toward a light with Capri after confronting corporate forces, but the episode never explicitly confirms either character’s final fate.
Who dies in the last episode?
Kiril and Kyoko die in the Badlands confrontation. Avida has already died before the final episode.
Does Talia die or become Capri permanently?
No. Talia survives, Capri’s chip is removed, and Talia begins a difficult recovery after much of her cyberware is removed.
Is D the original David Martinez?
No confirmed story evidence says so. His real name is David, but the anime treats D and first-season protagonist David Martinez as distinct characters.
Is Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 3 confirmed?
Not by the official premiere announcement or the sources checked for this article. An ambiguous final scene is not a renewal announcement.
